Re: A Game of Thrones (HBO Series)

I was just looking up all the major awards history for the show the other day, for one thing its won the Best Drama Emmy more than I'd actually thought it had. I forget now if it was for after season 5, or maybe just 7, but that it won the Best Drama even for a season where many fans thought it was overall one of the weakest runs of the show.
But Lena Headley definitely seems to be the cast member that's racked up the most nominations without a single win. I think there was one season so far she didn't get nominated for Actress. While I would have no problem with her winning on her last chance, and she no question is a fantastic actress, yet when you really look at it, she doesn't have nearly a varied arc to the same degree that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has, and I don't think he's landed a single nomination yet. I mean Cersei's had an "arc", but it's pretty much just mostly gone in a straight line. She was already not the nicest or fairest person in the world at the start, and she just became more scheming and duplicitous over time to now becoming just like full on delusional and borderline insane. It's a bold line but all in one direction.

If I'm Peter Dinklage with my 3 wins or whatever it is, I tell my reps to not even put my name forth for consideration, let Jaime get a chance That's what Bryan Cranston did after awhile.

oh no doubt. And here I thought that JK Rowling had constructed this really elaborate and richly detailed world in the Harry Potter books, it terms of how much there was of it that wasn't able to actually wind up on screen in the movies. But this thing... fuck me. And that's still without even looking at the books myself, but watching over the last few weeks many of the same videos you probably have.
Although as I think I already said before, while it's certainly no accident that very first teaser was set entirely in the WF crypts, I'm still not necessarily expecting them to get into all that further mysterious lore you're alluding to because there's simply not going to be enough time to do it.

especially not if episode 3 is also only going to be 60 minutes long. which sounded very wrong to me, I mean we know e3 is going to be the Winterfell battle against the NK, I can't imagine it would only be 60 minutes (that also meaning a full half of these 6 episodes are still typical GoT episode length). But CBM.com had a piece about it, showing from supposedly the very listings on HBO.com.

"arc" doesn't matter at all for those awards. the voters are sent one episode. consider the alternative: do you think that voters are seriously watching every single episode of every single nominated series?

Does every single voter watch every single series? No, of course not. While yes technically acting awards (well and writer and director ones too, for that matter) always are based on one individual episode, that that's what gets physically engraved on the Emmy, it's still widely understood enough that especially with acting you're getting it for the whole season.

I mean, that's completely contradictory to literally all the literature on this. the voters are specifically instructed to only consider the episode submitted.

for series awards, 6 episodes are considered.

There isn't enough time to delve to deeply into it, but Winterfell is clearly a big focal point of the season. I could see Ep3 being 25 minutes of Bran telling the history of Winterfell or the crypts leading into the battle for the last 45 minutes of the episode.

I'm so glad they are doing a prequel. I hope this becomes HBO's Star Wars and they continue to tell all parts of the story either in a series of movies about the houses or different time periods or in more spin off series.

I realize that's what's down on paper. But I'm telling you the way things can be very often done anyway, it's not always handled that literally. I forget if neumdog watches Thrones, cause he could surely back me up on this. I worked in the business for years, but he still does even now, I believe.

You never notice even with the Oscars, an especially older actor gets it for what's widely regarded as not even all that great a performance? Because it's them essentially being given a 'career award'. same basic concept, just the scale of degrees moves bigger or smaller.

i get on the train early enough where i can get my choice of seat. usually i go for one that's tucked into a corner and if there ends up being a risque scene, my phone is held at an angle that wont allow others to pry

goddammit this Youtuber knows what the fuck he's doing. I look at my video editing experience and just wonder what's even the friggin point. He's actually been showcased by the Russos themselves for some of his Marvel work

thanks for that video, I just sent it to my dad. He's one of those people that dont pay super close enough attention to the details, and by the time the exposition came at the end of the S7E7 episode he was probably nodding off. I think I've explained R+L=J to him a dozen times

maybe it's a baby boomer thing, to only pay attention to the surface of a tv show because nothing they had was all that deep

I didn't even think about it from that angle, but alright. yeah I guess it can serve as a quickie tutorial for the scenario (one of the Nerd Soup guys says how when his mom was initially watching, she thought "the girl in the Tower Of Joy scene was Ned's girlfriend"

My mom has veerrrrrry gradually shown interest in some genre programming. I mean like 85% of her is the quintessential senior citizen viewer (minus the Fox News, thankfully) but if there's a show with an acronym in its title, she's all fucking over it. the epitome for why procedurals exist. she's as deep into all the NCISs as I am to the West Wing. I'm kinda surprised now I really think about it, she watched all of Lost as it originally aired, but I still had to wind up guiding her along.
Her newest thing was Outlander, which I've never cared to watch but I know it's a heavy serial and genre. I keep having to explain to her she's not necessarily going to understand all of an episode's contents by the time its over. But at least she can watch all 4 seasons at her own pace.

damn it feels good to be vindicated. Some people were trying to say episode 3 was going to be 60 minutes long because that's the runtime you saw if you manipulated the URL info at HBO.com to make their TV listings show you more than one month ahead. I knew there was a reason HBO had only properly, officially had given us the first two run times first, and that's all. There's no way the whole "Winterfell battle" episode would be a flat hour.

indeed, we now have 100% OFFICIAL final episode run times given by HBO themselves.

did they not list a final episode run time or is it a copypasta error?

well I don't know at this point why they'd have it say "estimated", but this is the article where you can see for yourself
