I think I'm hitting up Taste of Chaos this year. I have yet to see Deftones live.

Ryan, you'll love Deftones live. They are one of my favorite live acts. I saw them right when Around the Fur came out, and also when White Pony came out. They're amazing. I'm hoping to go to Taste of Chaos as well

As far as the whole metal thing goes, I really love Sepultura and Between the Buried and Me. Number 12 Looks Like You is pretty good, but they're still pretty much unknown.

    http://betweentheburiedandme.com/alaska/

Their new album is awesome, "Alaska" from the album is very tight. It's the song that plays when you go to the website. For anyone who's looking for some new metal, Between the Buried is pretty good, IMO

The Number 12 band I mentioned above is more screaming than anything else, but I think they're pretty musically talented.

    what? who said that.

I used to be pretty big into White Zombie, but with anger issues, and other reasons, I don't listen to the heavy stuff anymore

When I saw Team Sleep in Boston, they put on an awesome show. It helps that I was standing right against the stage with Chino's crotch no more than two feet from my face. Plus I met him outside before the show

Yeah, he signed my notebook. There were like four of us standing outside the venue, maybe two hours before the show (I misjudged the time and got there WAY early) when a train pulls up, and off he gets with a skateboard in hand. He took some pictures with us (I didn't have my damned camera yet) and signed stuff. He had a cast on his hand and someone asked him about it, and he just said, "I punched a wall."

But it was an awesome show. They also had a CD signing afterwards, which I got in on. So I actually have 3 Chino autographs. I don't know what good they'll do me, but they're nice to have

I will certainly do just that. That's really the only cool celebrity run-in I've ever had, though. I need to start getting to concerts earlier.

EDIT: My good buddy Erik told me that Korn will be having a press conference Friday to announce up-coming tour dates. Giggity.

I listened to Master of Puppets all the way through on the way to work today. What a fucking amazing album. Damage Inc. almost gives me goosebumps. I've been listening to a lot more Metallica lately. Their early stuff is fantastic.

Chimaira are planning some dates with Children Of Bodom and Bullet For My Valentine in March, here's the stops:
March 18th New Haven, CT - Toad's Place
March 19th Sayreville, NJ - Starland Ballroom
March 20th Norfolk, VA - The Norva
March 21st Baltimore, MD - Recher Theatre
    March 22nd Providence, RI - Lupo's
March 24th Toronto, ON - Kool Haus
The aforementioned leg of dates will see Chimaira replacing God Forbid on the bill, while a schedule for the non-Chimaira run of the tour is currently pending.

Everything pre black album was just brilliant. Still my second fave group for all they did in that time period. Black album was still classic, but very different... If Everyday was a good album, id say it would be comparible . I even like some stuff on Load / Reload (2x4, Outlaw Torn [full version, b-side to a single], Devil Dance, Bleeding Me, Poor Twisted Me, Fixxxer, Fuel), and the S&M songs (-Human, No Leaf Clover).

... but by the time they were doing a duet with Ja Rule and coming out with shit like I Dissapear, my god... And St. Anger is shit. Pure shit. I actualy like Frantic though, and there are some songs on the album that have a catch to them that i can groove to, but its just a shit album in general. And dont get me started on the lyrics...

Re: Im a metalhead. Who's with me?

Wow, I always knew there were a couple metalheads on here, but I didn't realize there were this many! I've been into metal for a while (probably since I got the Black Album from Metallica), but I pretty much stuck to bands like Metallica and Megadeth for quite some time. Then I started getting into power metal (Manowar and Iced Earth are still two of my favorite bands), and over the past couple years or so, I've started broadening my metal horizons and getting into more melodic death. Some of the bands that have been getting lots of spins over the past couple years:

    Amon Amarth
    Agalloch
    Opeth
Farmakon (these guys sound JUST like Opeth, but they're a lot jazzier and funkier)
    Immortal
    Evergrey
    Dream Theater
    Novembers Doom
    Epica

I know there's a few more, but I can't think of them at the moment. I also agree with what people have said earlier in the thread about Opeth and Mikael Akerfeldt: the first time I heard his death vocals followed by his clean vocals, I was convinced it was two different people singing. I think if anyone wants to get into Opeth, their newest album "Ghost Reveries" is a perfect blend of their mellow stuff and their brutal stuff; sound-wise, it's like "Damnation" and "Deliverance" put into one album. Personally, I think "Ghost Reveries" is an absolutely brilliant fucking album, and is easily one of the best albums released in 2005.

For anyone that's into Opeth already, I definitely recommend a band out of Oregon called Agalloch. They're similar to Opeth in the sense that they have soft acoustic passages intermingling with the hard and heavy riffs, and they create the same type of dark and brooding atmosphere with their music, but that's about where the similarity ends. They have two albums out, "Pale Folklore" and "The Mantle", and they are both excellent. "Pale Folklore" has hints of folk metal, but is closer to black metal (at lesat in terms of the riffing and the vocals). And if you've ever wondered what raspy black metal vocals would sound like if they were whispered, "Pale Folklore" answers it. Their second album "The Mantle", though, is pure and absolute brilliance. It's a bit of a departure from the first album in that it has more acoustic passages (the last song on the album consist of nothing more than whispered vocals, acoustic guitar, accordian, and a mandolin) and a little more clean vocals, but it is as equally dark and brooding as their first album. "The Mantle" is definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Well, this post turned out to be a little more long-winded than I expected, so I guess I'll shut up now! I can't help it, I just love METAL! *looks for a headbanging smiley*

Re: Im a metalhead. Who's with me?

Pantera was without a doubt the best metal band to ever tour the country. To bad Phil was so strung out he fucked the whole band over. And of course the chump who thought it would be cool to shoot Dimebag while he was onstage playing.

As a matter if fact the 101prf in thy name comes from pantera.

I was a MASSIVE fan of nu-metal, but started getting out of it for heavier grindcore/metalcore/math metal stuff. Norma Jean (their first CD) is awesome, as is Dillinger Escape Plan. Zao is one of my absolute favorites. I haven't listened to much sludge other than Eyehategod, but I really like them. Dying Fetus is growing on me, too.
Yeah I'm into a lot of music like the metalcore/grindcore stuff, 2 of my favorites being Norma Jean and As I Lay Dying right now

I like Metallica. Also it's not metal but I love TOOL and NIN and have seen both of them live.

I saw Norma Jean in a small club when I was in London a few years ago, and I saw As I Lay Dying at this year's OzzFest. Both great. Norma Jean's first CD is fantastic.
