Unless there aren't enough jobs to go around for X number of minimum wage job hours / workers to equal people being able to make a livable wage, why not?

What does it matter if you work 30 hours at $15 per hour or 15 hours x 2 at $15 per hour?

BTB, for the record, I understood where you were coming from...that minimum wage would need to meet the requirement of a full time extrapolation...at least that's how I view it.

But I can understand Lee's confusion as to why you would just specify only full time too...thinking you were implying there needed to be a differentiation in pay or something.

I would have pointed this out sooner, but I was in the middle of ranting about Democrats possibly compromising to a slightly better unlivable wage.

Because sub 40 hours at $15/hr isn’t livable (IMO) - 30 hours at $15/hr is $23,400 annually. So if we are talking about “livable”, we aren’t talking about sub full time. Which is what shook noted. So I answered Lee’s question literally. Doesn’t mean that I don’t think those part timers shouldn’t get a $15/hr, or that a separate wage should be established - that was all discussion from Lee’s follow up.

Here is the thing for me.

I just used 30 hours because that can be considered full time (30, 40, whatever) and $15 because that's the wage being considered right now. Not necessarily because they equal a livable wage.

I was essentially just asking what the difference is between working one full time job or 2 part time ones that add up to full time.

Yeah, it seems clear there was something lost in translation - I thought he was suggesting there should be a different pay rate when he asked about it, but seems clear he was confused by what I was answering about “livable”.

I was just asking a question, without any suggestion at all - and not asking questions in a Climb way though. I like it when there is a good debate on topics, but when other parties are throwing insults and threatening bans, maybe that made the tension higher?

Just for the record, I don't support a minimum wage based on hours worked, but I also support different minimum wages in different areas, and my number for a minimum wage is definitely lower than what most would think is a livable wage.

EDIT: I do support UBI, but with other parts of the social safety net eliminated or reduced.
