Couldn't find any Crosby's Tears. Did find some Philly Phail Ale.

Lots of blame to go around for this disaster of a series.....

Flyers fans, who do you blame?

You know what? Good season Philadelphia. You exceeded expectations and gave us hope for next season with the development of the rookies. Next year is the year to contend. Start fresh, be better and be champions.

And thank you to TheCheckingLine.com for opening my eyes to the world of covering ice hockey. Have two unforgettable memories covering a Flyers game as well as the AHL Outdoor Classic and interviewing Michael Leighton. Fun hockey season and I'm stoked for next year.

    You drunk right now?

Most people thought the Flyers would finish 4th-6th in the conference and then win a round in the playoffs (which they did)

    BUT

Their gutless play this series was very difficult to watch after watching the Flyers carry the play in Game 1 (when they played to their potential) and also in respect to how they played in Game 6 against the Pens.

"Flyers hockey" is all about having heart. Too bad the Flyers didn't get that memo for 3 of the games....

And that goes out the window when they win a series against the Cup favorites. I'm not surprised to see the typical "Flyers can do no wrong" posts, but once again the season is a failure. They looked like a fucking AHL team out there for the past four games. Didn't deserve a single clap after that garbage.

And to Bryz bring the best player on the ice. Real accomplishment there. He still allowed what, 3+ goals per game?

    Agreed

If the Flyers played in Games 2/3/4 like they did in Games 1/5, I would not be upset.

To play with no heart is tough to watch.

I missed your edit. To be fair, Illya put the Flyers in a position to steal Games 2 and 4. There were a lot of problems with the Flyers in this series but Illya gets a bit of a pass from me because the team hung him out to dry (far too many times)

Sorry was way too drunk. Flyers sucked and deserved to be swept with their lack of effort in this round. Next year should be good, but we need Bryz to perform. He did better the 2nd round, but still was not good overall. New Jersey outplayed the Flyers in every aspect of the game.

About bryzgalov, although he was not that bad except goal 2, has anyone else heard that the new cba is supposed to have the "escape" clause where teams can drop one signed player while still paying him and have it count against salary cap?
Could have sworn I read that very early when his mega deal was released.
Even if, releasing him would only work if there's an available upgrade this off season but I think the pens series showed we can win with him.
Devils brought it this series and I actually thought we were outcoached this series. We couldn't beat the system/style the devils were playing. Maybe that was because they are a better team, but they were clearly better prepared to play us then we were them. After game two, we should have been able to find a way to get the puck out of our own zone against their style of play and we could not. Most times it looked like they had an extra skater out there.

It's been talked about (the amnesty clause) but anything before actual negotiations is just fodder.

It wasn't his fault but he sure wasn't a game changer which you expect with that kind of contract. 8 of his 11 games or something he gave up 3 or more goals. That's just not good enough this time of year. He's a very good goalie but he had a very unimpressive year when you look at it from start to finish.

Yeah there has been talk of the amnesty clause. If the cap goes down quite a bit I could see it being put in. But if the cap stays in the 60's in the new cba I don't think it happens personally.

So in terms of actual points not seeding we've got the 6th and 8th teams in the West and so far the 5th team from the East.

Not at the start of the season.

What everyone forgot about was how young this team got over one summer. They took away offense from Carter, Richards, and Leino--and put it all on the shoulders of Claude Giroux, which wasn't a sure thing. Not only that, but the amount of turnover in one off-season is something that is now ignored by fans, pundits, etc. No one was calling the Flyers contenders, and quite a few people thought they might not even make the playoffs.

This was a very good season. To say otherwise is just wrong.

I think in the long run, this will be considered a strong season for Philly. Most people had lots of questions about them before the season. They were so ridiculously young, coupled with injuries to Pronger, Briere, JVR, Couturier, etc... forced even more young players into the fold. The team showed a ton of resiliency for a bunch of inexperienced kids. Of course, when you beat the favorite, people will say you crumbled, but they will be alright. They just need to adjust their style of play in the defensive end.

Hello. Long time reader, infrequent poster. First of all I'd like to say I am glad the Flyers were eliminated. Fuck them. Second of all, while I'm not putting all the blame on Bryzgalov, Bob MacKenzie makes a valid point. "Bryzgalov has now played 22 career playoff games and in 14 of those, he's had a sub-.900 save percentage." That's a telling statistic. I don't know how I would feel having that albatross of a contract for a guy that can't get it done in the playoffs.

I have a feeling this thread is going to be reaalllly quiet during the SCF.

    Congrats, Ant.

And Philly fans, sorry about the loss. But doods, lots of young blood in the system. Imagine Couturier, Read, Schenn, etc growing together. Giroux hasn't hit his ceiling yet either, and I agree that Bryz will probably get better with a season under his belt.

It's funny, WIP this morning was asking for one word to describe last night's loss(es) in Philly, and various people had words like "disgusting" and "heartbreaking" and "ridiculous." Brian Hickey from Deadspin, who's from Philly, contributed the most disturbingly poignant word of all -- tradition.

He can be knowledgeable about the game and still have a shitty opinion.

I don't know how any Flyers fan isn't at his wit's end. It's the same bullshit rhetoric every year and nothing ever changes, but for some reason the Flyers are Teflon to many of their fans and it's always "it was a good year" when they've been virtually irrelevant since 1975. It's mind-numbing how much of a pass this team gets.

Im willing to bet, no "experts" had Phoenix, LA, and NJ all in the conference finals. Such a crazy postseason this year. Im kind of pulling for the Caps now, just to make it even a little crazier.

I still want to see the reports from before the season that stated the Flyers were destined to win the Cup this year.

    Show me those articles.

Yeah I'm rooting for them too. And I'm sure you are right that no one picked them. Most people had the Yotes losing to the Hawks in round 1. While some might have had the Kings getting past the Canucks at first probably didn't think they would get past both them and the Blues. At least not when the playoffs started.
