Gorge '16 N3 only had Old Dirt Hill (and more and more people are warming up to it as the years go by) and WAYG, yet lots of people were: "Why?" soon after it was announced as LT44. Maybe you can include Sledgehammer.

The band sounded like shit that night. It’s a rough listen. But yes - the setlist was very strong (especially for that era).

Unrelated to the actual quality of the show, the mix is one of the worst in the LT series, IMO.

Also, they didn’t play Sledgehammer at this show...

Lol at new fans saying 2015 and 2016. It’s impossible for this show to occur after Roi’s death and also incredibly unlikely to be post-2004.

I'm confused by the question. Is op asking what the last great show is or what the least great officially released show is?

Why would it be the last great official release? He mentions nothing about that.

The apex? has to be Fall 1998 for me. Perhaps 12/8/98. Riding that high from all the 90s shows and the MSG shows that week plus 12/5 and 12/7 - I don't think it got any better than that. Specifically The Last Stop closer - I think that was tops and the tour every so slightly dipped after then, then 99 was a slight dip, 00 brought it back up and it all fell off a cliff in 2001.

But the last great show? There's definitely been a few recently.

There's been some truly great shows over the past decade, they just aren't as common as they were the first 15 years

I'd love to hear from you or anyone who went to a lot of shows in '98, '00, and maybe '08-present, if there have been incredibly great shows at the level of '98 & '00, what are a few examples and why?

And for those saying Central Park, no one can argue that it wasn't a milestone show, that big an audience, Central Park, and great performances of the songs they played. But for anyone at that and say maybe also MSG or Worcester '98 shows, and Hartford '00 shows, or whichever shows you most value pre-Central Park, what makes Central Park *actually* the possible apex show outside of location & audience size?

Imo there are not shows from 08 on that are on the same level of 98-00 simply because they include songs/performances that are not great.
That said, there have been shows I really enjoyed and the number of duds was minimal.

If 98-00 are 10’s the best 08 on I have seen is 8

Not that it will happen but I would be curious to see a show with only big 3/LWS with this lineup and then compare how the energy, flow and everything is

Thank you, that's my impression as well although you actually saw several shows from '08 on so to me your opinion is the real deal, whereas my last show was in '08 (Roi in hospital at time so first shows with Jeff guesting in Roi's role). So my impression of not being super moved by '08 & later shows is only from audio and video shows.

I saw some 74 actual shows up to '02 (and several radio things and a t.v. show), then only saw 2 shows between '02 and now, one was '04 and one was '08. Both were definitely enjoyable, and after SO many shows up to '02 and then so few after that, of course it felt special to see them again. But usually when it's been that long and I was that big a fan before that, it would be even *easier* to wow me with an 8 show, it would feel like a 10 after so long. But I just wasn't wowed at all, and they were solid shows.

I do predict that the 1st shows of this next tour will be stellar, if for no other reason than it's been awhile since ANYONE has played live, and most people had some level of "reviewing life up to this point" experiences during the pandemic, which hopefully makes EVERYONE grateful for things they may have been taking for granted up to 2020 or even had started to hate about touring. So I predict the energy of the 1st shows will be stellar, both from band and from audience and the combo of course will likely take off like a rocket.

I hope the whole tour is great, but it'll be the shows at the tail end that I'll be watching, as the novelty of being on tour again and seeing familiar faces wears off and everyone settles more into their "new groove", I'll be curious what that groove is like.

Off the top of my head, the great shows I've seen:

    Tinley '03
    Alpine N1 '04
    Deer Creek N1 '06
    Alpine '08
    Alpine '12
    Deer Creek N1 '13

Whole lotta "very good" mixed in there, including Alpine 2015, Deer Creek N1 '18. A few clunkers.

Wow, this is why I don't drink at shows and I don't let friends drink much at shows either. I had a couple bad experiences and that was IT.

You should really listen to this show again and compare it to other 97 shows and tell me which versions of #41, Two Step, Tripping Billies, LIOG, Seek Up, Ants, BOWA, OSW(instrumental) are BETTER than at this show. There may be a couple INDIVIDUAL performances at a couple OTHER shows but no other shows have so MANY good performances. I can understand the animosity of the one-song encore, but if this show was in everyone's CD collection as a MASTERED show, it would undoubtedly be among DMB fans' overall favorites.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read, grew up a few exits up 84. Classic Meadows shenanigans.

And from someone who wasn't lucky enough to catch a show until '08... It's gotta be 6.26.11 for me.

They all (including me) asked why because we thought the 2016 CVILLE show would have made for a better release from that year.

Re: I ask this honestly - What was the last, great show?

    Alpine 2012.

I first saw DMB live Alpine 2010. From there I was hooked, and I mean obsessed. I was "that guy"; the one who continuously tried to play everyone different versions of favorite songs at every opportunity, though most wanted not that. I cringe at this reality now, but it was undoubtedly a critical time in my life. I was a kid trying to make sense of adulthood. Both subjective terms, yet defined personally.

2 years, 3 Chicago caravan shows, and countless hours of listening later, I was on my way back to Alpine Valley. My personal music mecca. 5 of us riding in a packed minivan from West Michigan, ready to meet up with a group we met in 2010. We decided camping nearby the venue and chartering a school bus was the best option for such a large group. Hindsight now allows me to say, we were "those people". Tie dyed shirts, cases of beer, loud music and many other substances... To note, I still love all of those things, just at a lesser degree. The weather was hot, but not Wisconsin hot, like desert hot. Temperatures were well above 100, with no breeze whatsoever. At the show most bus groups set-up-shop between them, in the little shade available. I would of hated to end a bus row those days. The mere thought of throwing a frisbee created swamp ass, sunburn and dehydration. Yet, we carried on, and carried on well. The heat cut down our beer consumption, but not our spirits.

Maybe it was the beer or, stuff, or my heightened sense of DMB's catalog... but, it. was. amazing. The band playing 3 hours sets, 2 nights in a row, the best they could in front of a sold out crowd drenched in their own sweat. Dave's awareness of the elements provided 2 setlists that I believe to be unmatched. The fans perseverance paid off, and we were rewarded. If you were there and don't consider these shows to be a peak, I am both jealous and skeptical.
