Help with an interpolation (it's on LT14, among others)

Rashawn plays a little lick at about 8:31 on SMTS/ASTB on LT14. I've also heard him do it in YMDT from West Point, and a few other random songs now and then. It sounds SO familiar to me, but I've never been able to place it.

I know there was a thread where someone was posting all kinds of obscure interpolations, so maybe whoever that was can be of help?

Anyone?

Thanks!

EDIT: BTW, I'm not talking about the Rhapsody in Blue part he plays right before this. This is literally the last measure of ASTB, almost in the dead space between it and Too Much.

shit i can't think of the name either. but i've definitely heard Roi play this multiple times during his Jimi Thing solos. i think it can be heard on LT10. also, Warehouse on CP

EDIT- it's everyday people by sly & the family stone!!!

What I want to know is what's that song that Rashawn always plays after the first chorus on 2008 versions of Ants. BTW, Dan, you never added my transcriptions of those 2008 Two Steps.

I've heard it before, too. The lyrics "...and dance with me" somehow stick out in my head but I can't think of the song or find it with any searches. The end of the lick (2:22) as it walks down the scale, is the words "dance with me".

That's what I'm hearing in my head but I might be way off.

Well that's definitely the tune I had in my head. Not sure if that's what Rashawn is playing.

actually, after thinking about it a lot, i think it's just a fancy way to play For What It's Worth. i don't think there's a song that has this exact melody but i could be wrong.

I LOVE how much Rashawn (and Roi :angel) interpolate/interpolated other songs.

Listening to this ASTB now. That 2001 horn thing is called Also Zach Zarathrustra, right? But I know you're not talking about that.

I know exactly what lick you're discussing. Dave has interpolated it vocally on Jimi Thing as well. I'm drawing a blank.

Goddamnit what are Jeff and Rashawn interpolating while Tim solos on the YMDT from 9/7/08? This is driving me crazy.

Not something I recognize, if it is indeed an interpolation.

Got it! It's "Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine" by James Brown!

    God that felt good

Let's see that added to the Almanac!

Topping this thread because I heard the same thing in the middle of Robert Earl Keen's "The Road Goes on Forever" on Live at the Ryman today. I'd love to figure out what this interpolation is!

PS I'll try to check out some of the other ones in this thread and get them added to the almanac.

This isn't what you're looking for, but on Ants Marching from 6.4.08 and Warehouse from 11.13.07, Roi interpolates "Can't Turn You Loose."

I really don't think it's For What It's Worth. I know Rashawn and Roi like to rearrange stuff when they interpolate it, but I think this is TOO different from FWIW.
