I don't devalue the opinions. It's just I feel like the bar was high for BTCS at that point in their career and they jumped and cleared it by some distance. It should have been high though based on the studio and live work at that point.

The bar isn't as high now. They will occasionally find gold and it should be celebrated. They won't always though but I'm always going to appreciate that they're still out there giving it a go. If it gets Dave out of bed in the morning and keeps him inspired to tour the way they do I'll take it.

So, I have to say, this song is enjoyable as a fan who loves the old-school sound and still holds out hope with every new song reveal. My only negative observation, if you could even call it that, is how amazing this song would have been if a thirty-something Dave Matthews worked on it.

I feel like that used to be the case for me. Then old dirt hill was good D&T. Then eh hee was terrible full band. Now I feel like I just like almsot everything D&T haha.

Because D&T/Dave solo are the best versions of this band and their songs.

It was WAYG. I was in a drugstore parking lot when I first heard it on the radio. Tried hard to convince myself I liked it, since I was still mad about Everyday's sound. But no... WAYG remains a kind of limp, floppy nothing-tune.

it took a little while, but after the first few years jeff really seemed to settle in with the band and find a mix of his own style and some of roi's sound. he's not just trying to copy roi and he's not trying to be completely different either.

I listened to this song a couple more times again today. I really dig it. I’m really hoping this new album doesn’t get shelved.

The only one I’m not that into is OATB. The pace he first played it at was much better than this super slowed down version they do full band.

Some of my music snob friends hates DMB, I don't know why and that's fine, I wouldn't be friends with them if I didn't connect with them in other ways, and they recognize DMB's musical prowess, but I'm sure it's songs like this they'd point to and I wouldn't have any repartee to that. Among other radio friendly songs they've released as singles.

I really dislike most of DMBs singles. In fact, it is somewhat embarrassing that DMB is my favorite band OF ALL TIME and to know when I say that people think of Dreamgirl, WAYG, Mercy, etc.

I like (i really mean love) DMB in spite of these songs.

Eh… no one thinks of Dreamgirl, WAYG and Mercy when you say DMB. Those came and went so fast. It’s still the classic singles like Crash, Satellite, Ants, etc. Even younger people because singles mean way less without radio.

“She” clone is so accurate. Heard it last night and thought the same thing... didn’t he write this exact song on the last album?? Lol. I liked “She” the first few times I heard it, but after awhile it was meh for me. I hit skip most of the time. Not sure this new one will do much for me, but we’ll see. i've had a few friends who weren't into dmb, and so i asked them a few questions about what they do like. favorite instruments (that are in DMB), style of songs (genre, mellow/upbeat, heavy, etc), lyrical topics, and then i would find a DMB song that closely fits their preferences. with how wide ranging DMB's songs are, there is pretty much a song for everything.

one friend in particular wanted electric guitar and mellow. i asked her if she wanted a jazzy love ballad or funky stoner song. she picked the funky stoner song, so i played jimi thing from LT28 (instead of crush). after the song ended she said "i don't know how you got to that song by just asking me a few questions, but that was great."

another friend, a 90s punk rocker, hated DMB because he thought they were just crash into me and nothing more. i played him DDTW, Warehouse, and #41 and he said "this is the same band?!?" a few months later he went to a show with me and loved it.

its all about finding something that they like that also isn't what they expect DMB to be. surprise them with a song in the style they'll like and they'll start second guessing their dislike of the band.

This is similar to how I got into them. My brother had been a fan since Big Whiskey, and he tried to get me into them but it took a couple years for it to really click for me. He knew I was into jazz/fusion/prog stuff so he started showing me songs like Seek Up, Blue Water, Minarets, Typical, Dreaming Tree, etc. and I was hooked. As a bass player, I was also of course a big Victor Wooten fan, so he showed me #41 with him and that really surprised me. There really is a little DMB for everyone. I've shown some of my metal head friends Halloween and they generally dig it.

I dig the song, but i feel like it's missing a BIG ending section. Think "Spinning Wheel" by Blood Sweat & Tears.

Ending the song with the main verse riff and some syncopated horn lines just doesn't do the rest of the song justice... plus that format has become super overused/stale with DMB 4.0.

This is why road-testing songs before recording in the studio is SO CRUCIAL! It allows the songs to grow and reach that next level.

I'm hoping the band realizes this and goes back into the studio to add new layers and let the songs breathe more on the studio recording. Shoot for a 2022 Release.
