For those who go for DMB RSD releases frequently, can you usually snag one online for around retail the day of or after? This year was my first go around for Luther and missed out at two stores. I eventually overpaid online for it and then saw all the posts around here for retail. Thanks.

Luther College was my first RSD purchase, I got it for face value on Discogs the weekend after Black Friday.

It's definitely gotten easier because they're A) pressing more copies (for both the RSD and with the past 2 being Sony Legacy people know there will be a wide release on black vinyl) and B) RSD has lost some of its luster.

RSD LT's 1-3 would have been impossible to get after event day anywhere, and the black copies didn't last long on the Warehouse. LT 4 was a bit easier, but still tough. LT 5 was easier.

RR95 and Luther, you probably had a decent shot to get if you just watched online for stores to post their excess stock.

Only reason I go out any more is for door prizes and socializing with people who you see at the events every 6-12 months.

Black Friday stuff is always easier to grab for face than RSD. The popular releases for RSD unless you go to the store and get in line you won't get for face (unless you have connections). The RSDBF stuff, I haven't lined up since 2013 and haven't missed a single release I wanted.

There's not as many big name RSDBF releases and RSD is a way bigger deal on a national level. Plus from a media perspective, there's so much other jazz happening on Black Friday that RSDBF gets lost in the mix.

The first few LT's, especially LT1 due to it being only 500 copies, were really tough, but everything after that I've gotten for face online. Usually what happens is right away the next day a few copies will show up online at an inflated price tags, trying to catch those really overzealous people who are worried they won't snag one. Wait another 24 hours or so and then a bunch more will start popping up right at or near face value pretty regularly.

I think I ordered my copy on Discogs sometime on Saturday night that weekend for $74.99. The higher press counts + the fact that everyone knows by now that a black vinyl release will follow shortly behind keeps the price down, because the market for the RSD version is limited to just the folks who really care about colored vinyl and/or an arbitrary number stamped on the back of the box. I was happy to grab the RSD version for face value easily, but if the only options available were overpriced, I'm more than happy to just wait for the black vinyl release a couple weeks later for $60-$70.

No no, I meant that the first few LT's (1-3) were really tough to get, and LT1 was *particularly* tough to get. So I meant that everything after LT3 was easier.

I have the black versions of all 5 LT's. I did have the pink LT5 but I kept it sealed and sold it on Discogs once I got the black one. The only RSD versions I have are Red Rocks and Luther.

Ahhh - understood!

I have all the RSD releases, as well as the black ones. Only one i didn't pay face for was LT 1...and I overpaid face by A LOT!

I have the RSD versions of all the LTs except LT1, black for that one. I was able to get an extra RSD LT2 the day after RSDBF that year and trade it on here to someone who didn't want their black LT1 anymore. Great trade!

Are you talking about Luther College? It's released on January 5th, it says "PRE-ORDER" right on the item. Only the WH has an exclusive early-release window, all other retailers for the wide release will ship on or around January 5th.
