PNP —> Rapunzel

My friends & I are debating whether these songs count as 1 song or two? We are having a group setlist challenge. What are your thoughts? Personally, I think there are 2 separate songs, with PNP as the opener to Rapunzel 99% of the time.

ODH -> PnP to Gravedigger was nice the other night

They've done PNP as an outro to songs as the above post mentions. Mainly it's done along with a "What Will Become Of Me" segue into PNP. It was mainly done as part of D+T Jimi Thing, but Dave recently did it as part of ODH (as the above post mentions). I'd say it's separate.

Also, I do think it would be really interesting if they also played it as an intro to other songs. There are certainly songs that could also have PNP as an intro.

Two separate songs, but come to think of it, every time I talk about Rapunzel I always call it P-N-P-Rapunzel. I don't know why

Have they ever played Rapunzel without it? Also, have you ever listened to PNP on the album without directly going into Rapunzel?

They've played Rapunzel without D&T.

They're two separate songs that get played side by side the vast majority of the time

Kinda surprised they've never done Jimi Thing > PNP > Rapunzel since that's where PNP started

They're two different songs but I count them as one song when referring to Rapunzel (PNP/Rapunzel). It's like Tool's Parabol / Parabola. Whenever I think of PNP, I think of Rapunzel. Whenever I think of Rapunzel, I think of PNP.

i would say its only 1. its really just an intro, like ASTB is a segue or kill the preacher > WIA. it doesn't exist on its own.

It would be cool if they randomly played Rapunzel by itself without PNP. It would catch everyone off guard.

Or do something like PNP -> Two Step, Ants, Halloween, Crush, Jimi Thing, STJL, BOWA, etc.

It's two songs on a technicality. Full band, it's always effectively been one song.

If I was at a show and PNP segued into anything other than Rapunzel, I don't think I would like it. (Rapunzel is ~ top 15 for me, though)

completely agree with your first point-- theyre technically two but essentially one.

but for your second point, i would LOVE pnp to segue into other songs to switch it up / surprise the crowd and its a shame they havent experimented more with it. pnp ends on a big D major chord so it could easily go into songs like Ants, Jane, LIOG, and Granny that start on D major and even try others that start on more of an open D drone like Loving Wings, WAYG, GIG, DDTW. heck, even try songs that start in D minor like Stone, Bartender and Two Step.

ya, not sure why after all these years, they haven't used PNP as a tease opener into just about anything.. Kind of like they did with ASTB for awhile.
