He's touring with the Flecktones now. I'm going to see them in Orlando on the 8th. Nothing in June. I haven't seen anything about him with Chick, but I read something about a new album, so maybe that's why he cancelled his shows in May? Would be really cool if he made some guest appearances with DMB this summer. Would love to see them perform together.

I believe those May dates were cancelled as well.

Flecktones dates only conflict with chicago and summerfest shows.

also why would a friend be relaying those sorts of messages, how weird would that conversation be - "by the way Stefan just thought I'd let you know that a couple of people on Antsmarching are saying you're replaceable"....... "oh. er... thanks buddy. i'll tweet about it don't worry."

I don't remember that either. I mean, I don't remember everything, but I'd remember if people were bagging on someone that just killed himself.

Also, what a shitty "friend" to send him screen shots of the few saying he's replaceable vs the many saying how talented he is.

Also, also is his friend sending screenshots the same as "asking for a friend". Stefan, Who are you on here?! Is he really Hilly? Havent seen his 2 cents on this whole Boyd thing....hmmmmm.

I believe Hilly is in timeout.

But I do wonder about that. Don't recall this at all.

    That leads the band.
Stefan is an incredible bassist, and as you pointed out,, he has helped write some of the bands best stuff, including BTCS. I love his style and the good vibes he brings up there.

I didn’t really take anyone’s comments in this thread as saying he sucked or needed replaced. I just saw the general comment of the bass player being the easiest role in a band to replace, which it usually is, and it’s kind of a running joke among bass players.

Whatever this is it isn't good. Clearly it was a decision that was made long before and we are probably only hearing about now because either A) Attempts were made to reverse the outcome or B) It was strategically planned. I think something has happened either health or personal. I have to lean towards personal since no details were given and that the band as a business has kind of let go in a business way. If Boyd were sick I would assume to see more photos of him in the calendar and have a more sympathetic official comment. On a side note and I am a little disappointed to not see Roi in September any more. Just because he isn't with us anymore doesn't mean we don't want to see his picture. I would also go to say that they have already found a replacement. And they will probably tour for a while with DMB.
To those who talk about the last concert being in Cville in 2017 let's not forget that the last concert where all of DMB performed was June 28th 2008
I wish Boyd and his family nothing but the best.

Not true. It may still sound good, but a new person is not going to have spent the past 26 years learning to lock in with Carter in the same way.

We obviously need Lindsey Stirling. Female, connects well with the young audience, not classically trained, has been on Dancing With The Stars. (Bonus.)

(I am joking but would also be somewhat intrigued to see how that would go...)

Also... all this drama about Stefan's drama on Twitter... Have you not been paying attention since he started posting? You agree or you don't, who cares? Really?

I hope Boyd comes back happy and healthy, and I do hope we are informed as to why he needed to break. But we love this band, and let's not be concerned about replacing anyone unless we have to. Stefan isn't going anywhere and I think everyone would agree that's a good thing regardless of how easily somebody else *might* be able to fill his shoes.

    They're still HIS shoes.

Re: The Decision: Boyd Leaving DMB

The performances without Boyd really weren't bad. I wasn't there, but from the youtube videos, it seems like they were pretty solid. And that YNK was amazing, as always.

But I do wonder about that. Don't recall this at all.

I think two things play into it 1) hes hard to hear on live releases quite a bit, thats why I loved LT 40 so much. the bass was finally up in the mix.
    2) people hear other instruments much clearer, the bass is often not the focal point, but if you removed the bass track the song would sound terrible. Most people aren't listening for what the bass does. Then you hear someone like Wooten, where the bass is more the focus, and you say "see, now thats a talented bass player!". Which he is of course, but with a different role.

Fonz is an incredible bass player and the "put another talented bass player up there and it sounds the same" is nonsense. The Fonz/Carter backbone of the band is very important to the sound.
