What proof do you have of that?

And if it's any drug addiction then I have less respect for the band as a whole for not getting him into rehab

Just got around to listening to parts of the show last night. I thought that for the most part they sounded great. Boyd was missed in places for sure, but I feel like given the circumstances, they played great, and not to mention we got some liberations at a one-off show. When was the last time that happened?! Also, I've seen people crapping over the way they played Ants last night, and to those people, I will just say that if you hated that version, then you must have the Dave & Tim version because that solo at the end was pretty much every Tim acoustic Ants solo ever but at a full-band show, so while it was a little surreal to hear Ants with no violin, it wasn't like what they played is anything we haven't heard before in some way.

Honestly, my only gripe last night was with the rearrangement of Samurai Cop, which as best as I can tell based on previous versions, has very little if anything to do with Boyd's presence.

All in all, though, great show and did nothing to decrease my excitement for my shows this summer...if anything it had the opposite effect. Into new waters we go.
Totally agree with this. The boys played great, samurai cop was off but they just need to get their groove back as a group. Summer tour will be great regardless.

9/20/91 is the best starting place according to almanac, assuming he never missed a show after that.

Cocaine is a giant waste of money. Terrible come down. Problem is you always forget that the next weekend when you go looking for another 8 ball.

I'm sure plenty of people do, and it's this kind of toxic negativity from the more critical fans and attacking those who don't share the same criticism that drove me away from this fanbase.

I just don't get the negativity in this thread.

The guys are human beings. They're not perfect. I'm thankful for the entertainment and community over the years. It may end tomorrow, it may end a few years from now. Regardless, let's be thankful for what we have, while we have it, even if we're feeling a sense of loss.

Where Roi and BT add a unique sound because not every band had horns or violin. In particular back in the mid 90s when they broke.
So to take away the violin you are changing the sound a lot imo and that was apparent last night, although it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected it to be.
Agreed on everything. And the thing about Fonz is I have never thought he was anything special but on the other hand he started at 15 years old with this band and helped create music I’d take a second mortgage out to go see, so I personally choose to respect his talents although they may be the least of those on stage. Boyd also may be the least overall “talented” technically speaking. The most “talent d” may be rashawn for all we know. In my opinion it’s carter but let’s not forget the singer/songwriter
    That leads the band.

What he said. Playing a fretless alone makes him a skilled player. It takes a lot of skill to play bass in A LOT of DMB song because so many of them are in unusual Time signature

Stefan is a fantastic bass player. For some reason he doesn’t get the credit he deserves here, but it’s pretty naive to think he’s not any good because either he doesn’t solo or he isn’t Victor Wooten. Nobody is Victor Wooten.

Exactly, plus most of us only have two arms so we're at a disadvantage immediately. Victor's the only guy I know with eight arms.

Fonz's playing reminds me of McCartney's.
