smith goes to louisville and lucas leaves kentucky to go to duke. very interesting maneuvers. I think I saw that this is the first assistant duke has hired that wasn't a former duke player since mike brey in the 80s.

Nolan going to Louisville didn't surprise me. This one does a bit, for the reason YNK stated. That said, I'm glad Scheyer is being himself and didn't feel he had to bring on a former player.

Lucas is a good recruiter and this is clearly a power move by Scheyer. Can’t wait for Cal to be gone.

Has he been UK's primary recruiter during his time there? I know Nolan played a pretty decent role in recruiting so this fills that void.

I’m not sure if he’s the primary recruiter but he’s been responsible for some pretty good commitments

Izzo is making the…interesting decision to roll with just nine scholarship players this year because he’s too lazy/incompetent/spiteful to recruit the portal.

Is that a reported thing, or is it just that there's 9 scholarships taken and there seems to be no movement to add more? I couldn't find an article where he definitively stated that he was done looking, and they've used the portal in the past, haven't they?

Seems UNC is waiting on the combine/June 1 decision date to pass to see if either Mayer from Baylor or Nance from Northwestern is available. With either of those players I'd take Carolina's 2022-23 roster against any team's; gotta actually play the games though.

Sounds like Keels might be coming back. Declined to participate in the combine.

Joey Baker entered the transfer portal (thank god), which might be a positive sign for them bringing in AJ Green from Northern Iowa, who I know next to nothing about.

Rodney--I know basically nothing about specific recruits, but how exactly is it supposed to work between Lively and Filipowski? It just seems the world is turning away from 2-big lineups and while Filipowski is a good/very good shooter, he doesn't seem like the type who can play a ton against lineups with a stretch-4/smallball lineups.

Maybe the plan is to rebound 45% of their misses and just outscore everybody.

Idt so. If he comes back I and a lot of others will be stunned. I’d love to be wrong though.

The plan the whole time was for Keels to decline to participate in as much as he could.

They feel very confident about Green, though. We shall see.

Keels was by far duke's best player in the FF game, IMO (williams didn't get much chance to change anyone's mind, though). definitely would rather he be playing NBA than ACC basketball next spring.

I’m admittedly a little bit out of touch with the guys in this class. I’ve seen the most from Whitehead.

From what I’ve gleaned from Filipowski’s game, they’ll probably largely use him to space the floor. I do think you’re correct in that he’ll get played off the floor against small ball lineups.

But I think they have a lot of interchangeable pieces and I think if there’s one area where Scheyer strays from K will be in his willingness to go deeper to the bench.

If teams go small they could sub Filipowski out and roll with Lively, Mitchell, Whitehead, Schutt, Roach.

I don’t know, just spitballing here.

What sense does it make to decline to participate in the combine when your best positioning in mocks is late first-round? Especially when you’re an athlete like Keels and would more than likely show out in many of the drills.

Told a columnist in an interview they’re gonna roll with 9 players because it’s “impossible to keep 13 players happy” and he’s scared he’d lose 3-4 to the portal every year. One injury and they’re kinda fucked IMO.

The fear of performing poorly was the reason for planning to skip on things.

He must be doing some and skipping others? I am not sure what he has and hasn’t done I just know what the talk was a few weeks ago when he declared.

So, Bruce Pearl is a POS who is a big Candace Owens fan. After all the years of investigation, Louisville receives zero punishment. And Bill self has self imposed a 4 game ban and will miss the champions classic game against Duke.

Season starts in less than a week. Champions classic in 2 weeks. Kentucky/Michigan Sate and Duke/Kansas. Maui classic end of November: Arizona, Arkansas, Louisville, Ohio State, Cincinnati, SD state, Texas tech, Creighton. Arizona/Indiana December 10 in Vegas. Gonzaga plays Texas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Baylor and Alabama.

One game in and I already like Florida’s new coach a lot more than Mike White. It seems as if his offense involves more than dribbling around the 3 point line while nobody else moves and then getting off a desperation shot before the shot clock goes off. So that right there alone makes him an upgrade.
