He recovered, he'll be ready to roll for the Tour. But Kruijswijk wont be there which takes quite a bit of firepower out of the team.

Nice to see the Tour is back. Some fun early stages, even if today's was VERY tactical with the stages to come and forecasted wind. Looking forward to fun next few weeks.

Should I feel bad for enjoying crashes? I don't want anyone to get seriously hurt but it is entertaining. I mainly watch for the spectacular vistas and crashes.

Julian out of yellow, it goes to Yates. Illegal lunch within 20k. Someone should have to run laps for that one...

Lot of work so far today with the mountains looming. Wonder if the GC teams are trying to test Bernal.

Thats been a pretty incredible first week of racing. Lots of teams/riders going full gas every day, should be a grueling war of attrition til the end this year.

I think these early mountain stages have been brilliant. No fast crashes because riders aren't bunched up in early sprint stages.

It would appear it doesnt matter which week they put the flat stages in, there will be crashes. That was rough to watch today.

I'm wondering how Bardet's legs will hold up. He's looking really good so far and can climb with the best of them.

Yeah those roads were kind of narrow. Some of those curbs...

Yeah, Bernal cracked badly. A little weird that Ineos used all that energy to try to set him up, maybe should have forced Jumbo to control the pace and save your strength to attack. Still lots of racing left but damn Roglic looks really strong.

Roglic has looked pretty dominant so far. But lots of climbing still to go. This weekend is going to be brutal. And the way its set up, that final uphill time trial next Saturday... if someone goes out a little too hard too soon you could end up losing several minutes by the end. No teammates to help you salvage that one. Its probably still a little early declare him the obvious winner.

For all their dominance the past decade, Ineos really botched their training plan with the revised cycling season this year. Couldn't get Froome and Thomas in shape to even make the tour and despite claiming that Bernals numbers in training were better they have ever been, that clearly is not the case. Maybe when your plans are that precise they are tough to change on the fly?

I actually think it was just because Froome is on the way out and I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas was, as well. They threw their support behind Bernal last season and both Froome and Thomas still have GC aspirations. They were never going to go out and be domestiques for Bernal.

They were on track to run the 3 leader squad and let it play out on the road, but then Froome and Thomas shit the bed in the Dauphine. It didn't look like a tactical "I dont want to work for Bernal thing", either guy could have shown it was his team to lead. And they were both unprepared.

Bernal abandoning. Rough, pretty disappointing year for him.

Roglic cracking a bit today and giving some time up to Lopez. Gained time on Pogacar, though. Roglic still firmly in the driver's seat, but tomorrow could be a very interesting day.

That stage was phenomenal. I thought Pogačar would tighten the GC race but it wasn't meant to be. Still 3 more stages that can change the order of things. How about that ride from Sepp Kuss!

Goddamn that looked like a brutal stage, super fun to watch! Roglic looking pretty well in control, and Jumbo is just dominant as a team. Saturday will be very interesting to see how Roglic does without the team assistance, great choice by the organizers to put that uphill TT on the last proper day of GC racing.

I hope Carapaz attacking and getting into the breaks the past two days was a big middle finger to Wiggins. Superb track racer but F that guy.

Pogacar is my dark horse pick. He showed in the Vuelta that he can deal with the type of sharp steep climbs that are all over this years Tour.

Totally wild year to figure out without a proper spring season to lead into it, the winner could come completely out of nowhere.
Obviously because its cycling its not official until the piss tests come back clean, and holy shit that was an awesome stage. A ride for the ages from Pogacar, that kid is something special. So bummed for Roglic as I'm a huge fan, but just didn't have that extra bit today. And Roglic still rode a pretty good time trial.

Very exciting 25k at worlds today. Alaphilippe will make a great world champion. And unlike most years when you have to wait months to see the rainbow jersey race, we get to see him again on Wednesday. Small upside to the insanity that is 2020.

Is this supposed to be surprising? I mean I love data and it's certainly interesting, but there's a reason sprinters are sprinters.
