shit, really? Did you like San Juniper last year? was it just that they were too similar?

I just got finished with it, I'm not sure how I could fathom how anyone could dislike that. Not saying you have to love it, but that it was your least fave (I've been watching them in Netflix order, and I'm 4 down, so I just realized I'm at the same point as you when you made this post)

Never said i didn't like it. It was just too....happy. I love when this show has dark fucked up endings. So, I liked it a lot because it was great...same with San Juniper. However, I find the darker ones a lot better.

    My order:

    1. Arkangel
    2. Crocodile
    3. Black Museum
    4. Hang the DJ
    5. USS Callister
    6. Metalhead

actually that's totally fair. You could really like all of them, but by definition, one has to be "last".

and I totally hear you, I love a dark, fucked up ending. like I was just saying over in the movie thread the other day, I was very much hoping Three Billboards WOULDN'T have the "happy" ending they were suggesting it was going toward.

Black Museum was, by far, the most "black mirror" episode of this season.

Arkangel was good, but pretty predictable. Still devastating.
Crocodile was OK, but I think they stretched it a bit.
Hang the DJ was very cool. Definitely very San Junipero-esque.
USS Callister was pretty bad and I liked Metalhead.

Interesting in the sense that it seems like it could be the last season.

even though during the episode, I didn't get why it was called "Hang The DJ", I of course realized it by the end by the song playing in the final scene (never heard that Morrissey song before but I could tell it was his voice and they clearly highlighted the chorus), but to be honest I still don't understand the connection of why the "Crocodile" episode was given that title.

    Just finished the season.

    1. USS Callister
    2. Black Museum
    3. Arkangel
    4. Hang the DJ

    5. Crocodile

    6. Metalhead - useless episode that was probably one of the worst (if not worst) episodes of television I've ever seen from a show I thoroughly enjoy.

How was Black Museum the most "Black Mirror" type episode? I thought it was a big departure from it (not as much as Metalhead though). It was three random stories with a twist ending.

To me, USS Callister and Arkangel were the closet thing to Black Mirror as we've seen before.

Yeah while I think she was a very talented actress, once we'd had her on screen for awhile, I was quite surprised when thru dialog they made it clear she was only 15. She's an Australian actor that I think is 21 or 22 in real life. Then again, Tom Holland aka the new Spiderman, I'm pretty sure he's 21 but I can pretty much by him as a 15yo.

It was a good episode, there hasn't yet been a single Black Mirror episode that's "bad", of all the seasons (I still haven't watched Black Museum or Metalhead), but I agree on the point that it was essentially fairly predictable.

and even the very ending, if you think about it I'm not sure it's really even all that bleak as they seem to portray (I'll still spoiler this just in case)

I guess I was referring to predictability.

USS Callister and Arkangel were kind of typical Black Mirror, but were both pretty predictable. Black Mirror is kind of based on dark twists/things you don't see coming.

Listening to the Binge Mode podcast and there's apparently a lot of Easter Eggs to previous seasons in Season 4. I caught most of the ones in Black Museum, but missed some of the other ones mentioned.

There definitely is a sort of "shared universe" element to the series by design by Charlie Brooker, but never to the lengths of the MCU or anything. More in just a fun easter egg kind of way, when they can insert it in without it seeming really jarring or contrived for the most present story. For instance toward the end of the s4 "Shut Up & Dance" episode last year, when the one woman who gets outed about her racism you see the news website she's got open on her computer and there's small references to like 3 other episodes, from different seasons. Including the British Prime Minister getting a divorce from his wife (the pig fucking ep), and something about part of the trial the young mother was in for having killed her kid (the "White Bear" stuff).

    Crocodile tears perhaps?

Just finished hang the dj. Favorite one of the season. Just felt more invested in the characters, rooting for them.

I thought that it was titled Crocodile because of actual crocodiles being very aggressive and guard their eggs closely.

    Re: Black Mirror (BBC/Netflix show)

Man I did not like this season at all.

    SPOILERS to follow:

USS Callister was my favorite by far. I'm not a Star Trek fan but I still liked this episode quite a bit. Kept me interested throughout with a satisfying ending. Only downfall was that I couldn't not see Liam McPoyle.

Arkangel was OK. I liked the premise. The technological feature of the episode seemed like something that one could see incorporated into our lives. Simple premise. Episode was too simple though. Lacked the emotional draw of similar episodes like "The Entire History of You".

Crocodile. Did not care for very much. Just went too far down the rabbit hole. I get it. We would go to any lengths to protect ourselves but the episode needed to be a bit more nuanced. Heavy handed. I know the ending was meant to be purposely ambiguous, which is fine; but a hamster, really?

Hang the DJ. I know people liked this episode quite a bit but I do not. A poor man's San Junipero with virtually none of the emotional attachment to the characters. Not to mention, we find out that whatever attachment we had to the characters turns out to be all for nothing as, well, it's all fake. I know this wasn't exactly "It was all a dream" but the conclusion toes that line way too closely for me to think this was much better than a high schooler's first attempt at creative writing.

Metalhead. I actually enjoyed this for what it was. An extended chase scene. Not a Black Mirror episode. Was OK. Hope to not see any more episodes like this.

Black Museum. Felt like they had several technological ideas that they couldn't flesh out into entire episodes so the added the idea of a museum to join them all. The ministories felt a bit disjointed and some felt like they served no or little purpose in the story, especially considering the conclusion (particularly the doctor one). This episode suffered from what I could see being issues for many Black Mirror episodes going forward. We expect a twist. Which is fine if you approach it carefully. This entire episode consisted of me thinking "OK how is this all going to tie together" and when the reveal came about, I felt like I was pushed off a cliff without any forewarning. The daughter is tied only to the last mini-story (the father) and the mother is in the daughter's head? I guess we're all tied together now but that's a pretty weak way to bring it all together.
