I think the most interesting thing about Incubus (and the reason why they're one of my all time favorite bands) is the fact that every album is how much they've completely changed their sound. Their very early stuff (Fungus, Enjoy Incubus) they were estentially a funk-metal band. I had never heard a band like them. They didn't change much going into SCIENCE, but you can definitely hear the maturity in the record. Make Yourself and Morning View are two albums that really show Incubus' glory. They're both fantastic from start to finish, most of the songs have their own sound and influence, and they are truly amazing. Totally eclectic albums.

I totally agree with everything here... My theory on Lance is that he was the disciplined driving force to the band getting things accomplished. Boyd himself has said that he's very lazy, and you can see it in his lyrics and the overall music from the band since Lance has left. Lance wasn't musically the reason that the band was great, but I think he had a lot to do with the band not accepting mediocraty... Which they have done since he's left.
Morning View and Make Yourself are by far their most accessible albums to the public, and I also think the strongest... Morning View was one of the best mainstream rock albums of the past 15 years, in fact... At their peak (coming off of the release of Morning View), Incubus held the future of alternative rock and roll in the palm of their hands... The underground respected them, and the mainstream was listening. Any progressive musical movement on their part would be looked at by both sides as gutsy and important, and would be taken seriously... The fall of Incubus as a band both critically and commercially since has been incredibly sad for me, as a fan of the band, and a fan of the alt rock music scene in gereral.
