I.E. - France isn't letting people go for walks. Significant drops in dopamine throughout and an entire population compounding with money problems is a recipe for significant mental health issues

Are people comfortable getting carryout/trusting food services? My wife and I are on opposite sides of that one, I want to pick up dinner on my way home and she's very nervous about it. We are in a state where there are only 6 confirmed cases and none in my county.

Hadn’t thought about it but I’m sure it’ll be a problem.

I’m not even sure how it’s possible to get everything back on track. The sheer amount of people and businesses that will need cash injections or tax waivers or rent subsidies in the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars is going to be astronomical. I don’t know how the city would pay for it without taking a massive hit in other places. But if anything like this continues to July like Trump said...I don’t think a single small business that relies on in-person transactions can survive. The cost to resume normally is going to be unreal, if even a possibility.

In the past 10 minutes I learned Wrestlemania is still on in front of no fans, SNL halts production and a Bond girl has the corona.

Here in Tampa/St. Pete, they've limited how late bars can be open, and that's about it apart from the statewide shutdown of public schools (they were on spring break this week, anyway). My job involves seeing customers, accounts, clients, etc on a regular basis, it's out in the open, and I come into contact with many people every day. Because of the nature of some of our work and the amount that customers depend on us, I'm fairly certain it will take an act of government to get us to shut down. So don't be surprised if I turn up with a positive test in the next couple weeks.

I literally Googled “Is it safe to order a pizza” yesterday. And Google knew exactly what I was trying to find out. Based on what I read, it is unlikely the virus will spread through food. Given that, I would be comfortable ordering delivery food, paying/tipping via app, and having the delivery service leave the food on my porch. No human contact, no cash, and I don’t leave the house, I guess that’s my current comfort level.

Edit: I’m near Detroit, we have maybe 10 confirmed cases in our area.

Working from home until at least April 6.

Actually agree with Brohan on the mental health impacts of this. Banning people from going outside would be nuts. I hope it doesn't get to that.

Speaking of mental health, this is purely anecdotal, but my sister in law is a practicing psychiatrist and told me today she's already seen a spike in new clients since all this started. There's going to be a LOT of financial, health, cabin fever related stress in the coming weeks and months.

Both my husband and I are on mandatory work from home for the foreseeable future. This works out because the kids are out of school until at least March 30th. Although today my 8yo nearly set the microwave on fire by trying to make macaroni and cheese without water. If the coronavirus doesn't get us the quarantine might.

It's crazy here though. The stores are all wiped out and the Chief Justice has closed our courts, except for emergencies, until April 16th. I spent a large part of the day trying to compile a spreadsheet of how each judicial district is implementing the court postponement. I made it through 5 out of about 40 districts. Will try to finish that tomorrow and then move onto Federal Courts and administrative hearings.

If you need any help, just top the Excel thread. Rumor has it there's someone in there that's really good at moving data from other sources into Excel.

As someone who is a freelance worker in film/TV, looks like I'm gonna be fucked for a little while. Thankfully, I have some checks coming in for work from the last month.

And as someone who regularly gets take-out and goes out to eat, I strictly have just been eating what I have at home and it's been fine; needed an excuse to stop going out to eat anyway. As far as mental health, I've been exercising and running hardcore the last few days which helps tremendously. Calling friends/family also helps. Been doing a lot more reading and writing. Playing guitar. Playing Pokémon Go lol. I try to keep the YouTube/Netflix/TV stuff to a minimum cause it makes me so lazy.

Yep. And, for people in colder regions, they've already been "inside" for a while. Right about now is when people are used to "getting outside."

At this point Trump should just do his declaration to get everyone to stop doing business with China , but this time an actual thing, not just a dumb tweet.

They hid this shit for like 2 months and now it's absolutely destroying our economy. Chinese gov't needs to pay for all of this, fuck em.

Google Sheets > Excel, at this point.

    Use it daily.

Rog my personal finances spreadsheet that you helped me out with like 2 years ago now has 23 or 24 tabs, one of which is a dashboard which almost tells me everything I ever need to know. Even linked a google form to it, although at some point I have to make some others. It's a labor of love, at this point.

    Glad it's working out!

I'm sure google sheets has all kinds of awesome features but I'm not sure if it's realistic for company use.

We've just gone through another regime change and I'm finally going to be utilizing Power BI. Exciting times!!

We use it at work but really the main reason is because more than one person can be editing at one time. We use it to log transactions and there's a few of us that do it so we can just leave it open in Chrome and continually add to it.

But yeah, when I need to do something I usually just open excel, write whatever I need to in there, and copy it over to sheets or if something's not working in sheets I'll copy it to excel. The troubleshooting there is much more intuitive, at least to somebody like us who learned excel for decades first.
