It stinks that we had to lose Mientkiewicz, being a multiple gold glove winner and all. However, he was hitting only marginally well, and was far more expensive than Morneau, who could very well be a big star in the game. I still think that the Twins should have gotten a major leaguer in that deal, but Justin Jones could be their next Ace in the rotation if he doesn't mess up the arm(ala Scott Erickson)
I hated to see Mientkiewicz go, especially to the Sox (Yankees fan as well) and for such little in return but the guy just wasn't hitting. 1B needs to be a productive postition and he just wasn't doing it (although he is the best fielding 1B in the game).

The one thing I don't like about the Twins is that because they are a small market they are constantly moving people around but that is more an isssue with the game than the Twins organization. I think they have a great shot this year with Radke and Santana. If they are both on for a playoff series they are going to give teams a very hard time.

The Twins as an organization don't have an inordinate number of transactions. In fact, one of the reasons for their success is bringing players through the farm system together, and keeping them together in the majors. Trades are inevitable, but a lot of these guys have been playing together since AA or earlier. This builds a great chemistry.

Mientkiewicz was a business decision, and the right one. He quit hitting so it did't make sense to keep him around with Morneau producing. Morneau was a goalie in hockey and has a great sacrifice-the-body work ethic on the bag. Plus we hockey players have the "losing is for losers" mentality about competitive sports.

9-0 over the O's. Helluva second inning with 7 runs.
Santana had better get the Cy Young after this season; tonight 9 stikeouts in 7.0 innings, zero walks.

Johan has four starts left - and no team has been able to figure him out. CY YOUNG should be a no brainer, it doesn't matter where you live, you should have heard about the best pitcher in baseball right now.

A nice 4 gamer in Detroit. and the Johan comes home to pitch! I am going to try to go to that game, if I can pull myself away from work!

I've got him figured out. He has a great placement on his fastball, which rarely misses. He has a changeup that is slower than a glacier but looks like a freight train coming out of his hand. Even though you know what's coming, you still can't hit the shit.

Fastball on the fringe of the zone + another fastball on the other fringe + a changeup (that the batter has determined to swing at before the pitch has left his hand) = K

    = K
    = K
    = K

    etc.

After a wondeful weekend, it is weird to think back one year ago, and realize there was still a playoff race - oh well, how times cam change. We have 1 more game in Detroit, and then Johan vs. Chi! I hope he gets 10 - 13 K's this game. It would also be nice of Chi to let up sweep them, so we can clinch the Division at home over the weekend! I mean, they have nothing to play for, and usually that means they just give up. I love the White Sox! They SUCK sooooooooooooo bad! It is so much fun to see what moves they make during the off season, trying to cathc up with us, then we call up a couple of more young studs from the minors, and crush the division once again!

    Win Twins!!!

Preseason, everyone assumed that the Sox would just mop up the central, but that clearly didn't happen. The Twins will be the first in the AL to clinch, and the second overall.

The magic number is now TEN.

Swept the Tigers. Luis Rivas comes back today(not that you could really tell he was gone) and a sweep of Chicago will put Minnesota's Magic number at 4.

Mr. Johan Santna will be on the mound tonight, going for his 18th win.

So, will the Sox just roll over, and let us enjoy this streak? It feels great to have a 10 + game lead, amazing how last year we were down by 1 game at this point.

OK, I would say Johan strinkes out at least 10, maybe 13 tonight!

I see you are located in LaCrosse? First, sorry, you have to be in Wisc all the time, but remmeber, it is only temporary. Second, have you tried your local tavern? I know there are a few in LaCrosse, so you should become good friends with a bartender / waitress, and then you have no problem watching the Twins. Don't worry - come October, you will be able to see ALL games!

I hear you. One would think that being in a border state would count for a little extra televised coverage, but no. I can somewhat understand Wisconin being light on coverage with the Brewers. However, Western Wisconsin has quite a few Twins fans(Vikings & Wild, too). We don't even have a pro team, unless you count the I-Cubs.

I have to count on Fox Sports Chicago. I am ordering the Sports pack from DirecTV to get Fox Sports North.

Chicago had a no hitter going into the 6th, looked like a big pitcher's dual and then BAM! 9 run inning. I did appreciate the pre-game interviews on Fox Sports Chicago where the Sox players acknowledged with quite a bit of class the Twins' success this year. It's good to see professional behavior from some teams, despite the chair being thrown at fans in Oakland.

Santana: 7 Innings, 7 Strikeouts, 2 hits, 1 walk, 0 runs. The AL Cy Young award is his, and probably the World Series MVP, too. He's averaging LESS than a walk OR a hit per inning for the season. I'm impressed: 0.923 to be exact(209 IP, 144 hits, 49 BB)

Let's not overlook his 1.15 strikeouts per inning for the season, either.

That is why there is the MLB package on cable or satellite. I know it may seem pricey, but it is worth it! You get all of the games, and can watch yopur hometown team from a far. I know it isn't the same, but you would be able to watch 75 % of he games!

Way to go Johan, he better have that Cy Young thing wrapped up...

Did anyone else hear Buhrle (sp?) crying to reporters after last night's game? We don't have Frank or Magglio - suck it Buhrle! You guys suck anyways! There was also an unnamed (pussy) source who said the Twins will be one and done in the playoffs - going home after the first round. I DON"T THINK SO! The Sox just don't know when to quit - they are a bunch of pussies, who can never win an important series, let alone important game to save their franchise! They will always be crying at the end of the season, becasue the Twins have frustrated them once again. I am really beginning to HATE the Sox - I mean, I did not like them before, I was starting to disloke them, NOW I HATE THEM!

    Win Twins!

At times I feel like I'm talking to myself in here, but that's OK. The world must know the great Twins things happening.

Tonight they finished their sweep of the Sox; outscoring them 26 to 4 in three games. This immediately followed the sweep of the Tigers; they outscored them 20-10 in 4 games. The Twins have won 9 straight and 14 of their last 16 games. Their magic number is 4.

They will be the first AL team to clinch(maybe the first MLB team to clich as well). They have the leading Cy Young candidate as their ace. Yet the mlb.com main page NEVER has them as a featured item. My question is this. What gives?

They were featured everyday the Indians were creeping up on them a few weeks ago.

And since they're so far ahead, it's not as exciting as the NY/BOS thing, Barry Bonds' 700 HR, or Ichiro chasing the hit record.

By the way, the Indians should be making their last run any day now. Watch out.

Magic # is 4... we need CWS to lose at least once and a Twins sweep would clinch it at home. Two wins by the Twins and we need two losses by CWS. One win by the twins we need 3 losses by the CWS. We want to clinch at home people...for the fans. Come on boys.

By the way, the Indians should be making their last run any day now. Watch out.
The schedule is cruel after Baltimore, Chicago, NY, & 7 games still to play against that damn Tribe. An early clinch is key so that the Twins can rest the appropriate players on that hideous roadtrip. Easier to stay healthy when the pennant is in hand while watching NY and Boston fight until the end and wear themselves out. "I love it when a plan comes together" -Hannibal; The A-Team
