Re: Am I in the minority about Time Bomb?

I'm hoping they start to jam out that intro a little longer eventually, like they do with Two Step.

Good concept. Some good music. Could have been done much better.

Like, if, the song had a better pace to it?

I could see why others don't like it, but I enjoy the abrupt shifts. It gives the music a bit more of an unsettling tone than if it had this long, structured orchestrated buildup. That doesn't work for every song.

I like the first half better than the second half as well. I also think the first half should be twice as long, because it would make the buildup to the "explosion" better.

It's my favorite on BW BUT I hate hate hate the very end. It sounds like top 40 bull for those few seconds and just ruins the afterglow, like someone farting after sex. What the hell was he thinking?

I feel like there's way too much synthy - keyboard stuff going on during the first half to really capture what they were I think going for with this one.

It's a pretty good song though.

The April Sessions version had no keyboard. I like it more than the final album cut.

I've never been too impressed with Time Bomb. It simply sounds unfinished to me. I say, give it a year or so, and hopefully the band will expand on the ideas they've already got over the course of live shows, and the song will improve dramatically.

I'm also not keen on a lot of the lyrics.

Interesting... If i recall that's the difference between April Sessions version. No synth pad.

Re: Am I in the minority about Time Bomb?

The way Dave's voice is recorded on this song is really great, and a testament to how good use of production can really enhance their work. When the song begins it sounds like Dave is whispering in your ear and when you reach the first chorus (the quieter section) there is an added effect to his voice; a touched of reverb and distortion that makes him sound like he's reverberating off the walls of a loud room. You really feel like the character whoever he is, is starting to lose control. And then his voice at the end is just raw and sounds like he's barking through a megaphone. You grow through three different moods in his voice that go along with the three different sections in the song.

Hey, don't know if this has been said or not, but does anyone hear a bong being ripped when Dave sings the part about the martians coming from the sky? I swear I heard it today.

This is the one song on BW that I think they missed completely. The ingredients are there for an amazing song, but I dont like the way its put together. The idea is awesome, the execution... not so much.

    Just an opinion of course.

It blew my brains out the first time I heard it, especially the end. But now I like the first half better. It has a very BTCS feel to it.

This is a forum of opinions, there is no right or wrong answer. Calling an opinion wrong is illogical.

A lot of people are split on this song but I totally agree it could have been done so much better. Again, I just resort to the video that shows Dave talking about how 'Time Bomb' reminded him of 'Two Step'. It sounded so developed and so strong in that video.

The finished product doesn't satisfy me like it could have.

I'm up and down on this one. There are times when I feel it is awesome, but then there are times when I feel like it could have been so much more. And something about the intro live just sounds off. The sax part specifically.

I love the calmness, wonderous, thoughtful first half of the song. Of course I do love how the Time Bomb blows up in the end, lol. But the reason why I like this song is not becuase Dave just screams.
I agree. I really like the song, but it could be so much better. And Im sure it will evolve to something better in the live setting

i think the end is much better live as tim gets that guitar solo that he throws in there that he proceeds to extend. it really elevates the song and i wish it was on the studio version.

    I fully agree.

I've been skipping through the end of the studio version lately...

I agree with the OP, the first half is awesome, but the second half is really predictable and not so great
