The Cure

Been delving into them a bit more lately. My favourite albums are Wish, Disintegration and Seventeen Seconds. They also have some great b-sides.

I was thinking the other day: when I think of depressing music, no one beats The Cure for me. Not even Pink Floyd or Radiohead.

yea....ian curtis was lead singer and hanged himself...then the band hired a new lead singer and they became new order. (blue monday, bizarre love triangle, etc.)

Bloodflowers is an awesome album. Along with Wish and Disintegration, it's in my top 3.

Seventeen Seconds and, perhaps, Faith, round out the top 5.

The Top, Wild Mood Swings and Three Imaginary Boys are my least favourite albums.

The Cure still put on an amazing live show. Seen them twice at festivals and they were awesome both times.

Also, Pornography might actually be more depressing than either Joy Division album.

IF you haven't listened to Bloodflowers, do it. It's a great album. I've seen them twice. Once in 2000 and in 2008. In 2000, they did a three encores (9 songs). In 2008, the did 2 encores (13 songs!!!). They blow DMB away live.

I really need to delve deeper into their discography. I absolutely love Disintegration and Wish, with each having countless spins. I’ve listened to a few others too, but never consumed them the way I did with the aforementioned.

The Cure is my #3 fave band, only behind Pink Floyd and Metallica. If you want to listen to some good deep cuts, throw in The Top, the non remastered version.

If your fave albums from The Cure are Disintegration and Wish (same as me) then you owe it to yourself to listen to Bloodflowers. To me, it's the closest album to those two.

Damn, the possibility of shows dedicated solely to Disintegration gets me very excited. At least from my own musical tastes, and humble opinion, there are only a few albums that can hold up back to front in a single concert. Disintegration is one of them. Dark Side of the Moon is another and I missed that tour.

As a fan of both those albums (though Meddle / Animals top my Floyd lists), and a native NYCer, hi there!

:wavesback Howdy! Agree on your choice of Meddle / Animals, but do want to highjack this thread seeing as there is a Floyd thread for that discussion.

I think Disintegration was a turning point musically for The Cure.

... yes, that last sentence is legit given the context

Now if they’d only release the album. Robert Smith said to expect it by the end of October…hmmm. Next October?
