what was the rarest / most unique song at your first DMB show?

was wondering when everyone popped their cherry and saw DMB for the first time did you get a rare song, a song debut, song liberation, a cover, a guest?

my first show was in Canandaigua, NY in '99. I got a "full" #40 (3:20 according to dmbalmanac) with Stefan and Carter playing on it. i didn't know what the song was and had never heard it before. i was 16, in hs and only had official live releases, plus the official dmband.com road page had the encore from the printed setlist, they pulled an audible and did 40->watchtower->ants. so i felt like a true fan and a vet when listener supported aired / came out and there was that "new song" i heard over the summer.

Not a DMB song, but I did get to hear Dave guest in Soulive's set on Joyful Girl. I think he only guested with them on that song twice.

Also, interesting to see how many people saw their first show in 2005 after Stand Up came out.

first show was scranton 05 and it was their first time there. outside of the SU songs, everything else was the set staples like warehouse, DDTW, and two step. the rarest song from that show is stolen away (62 plays) with american baby close behind (64)

its pretty crazy how so many SU songs have pretty much completely disappeared from sets after the first 2-3 years after the album was released. not that im complaining, but even songs like dreamgirl and american baby, which were singles, have had less than a dozen plays in the last decade.

2. Crazy easy (3.73)

Those were the days.

And If I’m being transparent, I really wasn’t a “hardcore” fan until 2008 so part of my counts this as my first show where I actually knew all of the songs, etc. - Dreaming tree (5.63)

Most unique thing about that show was that they didn’t do an encore because of curfew. They just played through where there would have been a break.

I still consider it the best setlist I’ve ever seen! Not only Busted Stuff, but the 7 song run from Bartender on to end the show is as good as this band has ever done imo.

My first DMB show was 7.3.2000 at the now demolished Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA. I was 18 and partly because of my already crazy love for the band and partly because of the energy I felt that night, it was my favorite concert I have ever attended. I heard the first live Busted Stuff. The Lovely Ladies were there and in full effect. The final song played was Two Step. "As Two Step began, so did fireworks as part of a 4th of July celebration. It made for a spectacular ending." Zambelli fireworks are the best in the world and Zambelli is located in Pittsburgh. "Zambelli Fireworks is one of the largest fireworks companies in the world with a history dating back to 1893 and puts on 1600+ Fireworks shows a year." I also saw the first Dave & Friends show on 12.12.2003 at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State University.

Interesting...this was my first show as well.

That was the second of only three full-band performances of Rain Down on Me. A year later it had evolved into JTR. I had no clue what I was seeing at the time, but JTR is a contender for my top DMB song ever.

Opening acts were The Roots and Santana. Santana & his band guested with DMB on a few songs. And somehow Bela Fleck was there as well for a handful of songs.

I absolutely loved the show, but looking back, I seriously did not appreciate everything that was happening on stage. lol
