What would you want in the 25th Anniv. package of BTCS?

Pick 1-2 things that you'd want in the vinyl re-release package of BTCS.

For me, I'd want to hear extended jams of all the songs. Would be great to hear all they recorded for Rapunzel, Crush or Spoon. We know that Lillywhite recorded 10-15 minutes at a time and took the best parts of those jams.

I want a brand new 5.1 mix on a CD+Blu-ray package, mixed from the original analogue multitracks by someone who knows how to mix surround.

    AAA 45rpm reissue of BTCS.

Bonus digital download of any songs recorded during the BTCS sessions.

Rumored songs from those sessions (via Ants Tour Central):

Don't Burn The Pig - Possibly Dave solo, reworked into “Pig”.
Get In Line - Recorded during the BTCS sessions but not released.
MacHead - Recorded during the BTCS sessions but not released.
#40 (Always) - Possibly Dave solo.
Captain - Possibly not actually recorded, but Dave worked on it during the sessions.

Unreleased studio stuff, be it different takes of the same songs or songs that didn't make the album.

If it doesn't have Machead, it's a waste of time. Or about as exciting as the Crash anniversary release was.

    1. AAA Vinyl, whether that's 3-4 discs at 45rpm or just a 2xLP. Just please keep the analog chain like Crash

    2. Machead

    3. (I know you said only 2) But exactly what Doby said. A 5.1 mix for blu-ray audio

Just like Crash, but with the BTCS tapes. Done in a 45 rpm version would also be acceptable.

Between stuff like this, complaints about skipping when played on poor tables, and the complaints about DMB Live 25; I'm worried us vinyl folks are going to see the window close for releases tailored for us

A shame, too. Crash was spectacular

I have no complaints about Live 25 other than a lack of immediate digital counterpart (I don't own vinyl). I can't speak whatsoever to technical vinyl issues.

But the Crash anniversary release was pretty weak. I don't expect DMB to do much in the way of truly celebrating their anniversary releases. Check out the recent box sets of Metallica's first 2 albums for a serious anniversary release. TONS of material that the average Metallica fan would never have in that format, beautiful packaging, lots of thought put into every piece.

If we could get a BTCS like one of those sets, then shit, I'd be over the moon. But it won't happen.

Disagree here, an all analog remastered cut is not "weak" in any way.

I don't know what the specs were on that Metallica set were, but a lot of their releases in the past have been sub-par audio quality-wise

I'd take quality over quantity every day

I would love to hear outtakes from all of the interludes they did for BTCS. Even if they aren't fully fleshed out it would be cool have them included in the anniversary edition. I could listen to a full album of those!!!

Re: What would you want in the 20th Anniv. package of BTCS?

The Metallica remasters were all over-compressed messes, so I guess it's really whether you're in the camp of "I just want bonus material" or "I just want the best possible sounding version of that album" and sadly, rarely do the two meet.

Exceptions to the rule would be anything Steven Wilson is involved in. Look at XTC's 1979 release Drums and Wires (everybody probably knows the song "Making Plans For Nigel") - the single Blu-ray has 117 tracks all beautifully mastered:

New stereo mix = 12 tracks
Original stereo mix = 12 tracks
    Instrumental mixes = 12 tracks
    5.1 mix = 12 tracks
Bonus tracks new stereo mixes = 11 tracks
    Bonus tracks 5.1 = 11 tracks
    Demo session 1 = 6 tracks
    Demo session 2 = 4 tracks
    Demo session 3 = 4 tracks
    Demo session 4 = 4 tracks
    Rehearsal tape = 20 tracks
    DJM re-recordings = 3 tracks
Various original alternate mixes = 4 tracks
    Promo videos = 2 track

    AND, it's only US$22 - https://www.amazon.com/Drums-Wires-Xtc/dp/B00NBH2BA6

Re: What would you want in the 20th Anniv. package of BTCS?

Since I don't own vinyl, and listen to most of my music in the car or on Apple earbuds, I'd say I just want bonus content

Audio fidelity is great for those that have the systems to properly take it in, but it doesn't make it special for an "anniversary" release to me.

    Deluxe Editon Box Set
    remastered cd & vinyl
blu-ray/dvd of the album remastered, and video of "making of BTCS", possibly live stuff too
special live version of the album from the summer or winter tour
a cd with machead, outtakes and anything else from the session not known
photo book containing everything from the studio sessions to the tour that followed
digital download card for all the audio above

realize this will never happen, and I'm sure I'll get heat for something I said, but that would be a nice box set to celebrate such an epic album, and it would cater to every fans preference.

I'd be floored if they did a proper immersion box set. I'd probably pay far too much for something like what you described if offered it from the store

from DMB i could see that being $130, maybe a little more. the immersion sets had a lot more paper to them. like the wall i paid $150 for, it has 7 discs, 2 photo books, a poster, limited edition photo cards, early sketches of the wall, scarf, marbles (lol), coasters, think thats about it. so yeah all depends. i love box sets though, and that would be a great DMB one.
