Future ‘22 Live Trax

I’m curious what shows people would want made into future Live Trax releases from this past tour?

I personally would go either night at SPAC (more leaning night 2 though) or I think a super unique release could be N1 from Deer Creek with Preservation Jazz Hall. I know the set list for that one isn’t blowing anybody away but all of the tunes that featured them were standouts and would be a unique release.

Hartford. Best show we saw overall, and we were at SPAC.

Wasn’t there, but with Tim having been out during Deer Creek, I think that would be an interesting release.

For a show I was at, Alpine N1 would be cool. Spac N2 looks nice as well

I don’t mind Tim’s playing/volume these days. My suggestion was more bc it’s unique to have him absent these days

The odd things for deer creek weekend had nothing to do with Tim being there. If anything the lack of electric guitar made songs like DDTW better. I typically hate cornbread but Lawlor having the blues rock based solo compared to TimC/DC's slide solo was better.

That Girl is You was an absolute letdown with Pres Hall (that was my first time catching it live with Pres Hall). Perhaps they were tired from their actual tour or just didn't have a solid soundcheck but it didn't live up to the Cville video I saw.

The encore N2 and the Carter injury during Bayou really made for a weird ending but even the paper setlist ending seemed lame assuming carter never got hurt.

Jimi and Ants are the big ones I remember being really impressed with while they were on stage. And the Joe Avery’s Blues segue was pretty unique as well. I wouldn’t select N2 at DC because of the encore, but it would have been probably my pick after the other shows i mentioned if the encore would have been what it was supposed to be. Lawlor killed it that night. DC was for sure a bit of a letdown especially after last year, but my group still had a blast and there were lots of memorable moments for me from those shows.

It'd be fun to watch people melt down.

Plus, Live Trax mixing > Sirius mixing.

There's some great Friday shows that suffer because what's available is the Sirius stream.

It’s baffling how the guest guitarists have better tone than Tim has ever had with the band.
Trucks, Krasno and Lawlor blow Tim out of the water with their tone and ability.

That was either the worst or second worst DMB show I have ever seen. It just didn't get going. I was quite disappointed with that one after the types of shows they put on in Raleigh, West Palm Beach, etc that I saw.

I'd like a more recent Live Trax. What about Tampa 2021, Tampa 2022, Jacksonville 2022, anything like that?

Completely disagree. Tone is subjective anyways. Tim has superior tone to almost every guitar player out there IMO. I think all 3 of them have a similar tone, which perhaps just suites your ears.

Maybe just another "best of" the Gorge. But they seem so hesitant to release Gorge shows for some reason. We've had the 2002 Box set and 2016. They are leaving so many of their best shows out there. No idea why. I'd take an officially released Gorge show once a year.

Didn't RR say something about "you'll hear N1 at Alpine again" on the interviews they did before SPAC? I seem to recollect that. I took that as an indication it may be a LT. Or maybe a Warehouse release.

I don’t recall that, but I could see why they would release that show. Solid set, debut of Fool in the Rain, awesome Rapunzel, Pig opener.

Tim's phrasing and tone in my opinion are inferior to most guests especially when it comes to the sound of DMB. I love him with TR3 as his tone and sound make TR3 what it is. But many times his tone doesn't fit the DMB sound as well.

I was at Deer Creek and Lawlors blues rock based tone (Mayer used that for his 2 guest spots) fit cornbread much better than the piercing headache making slides tim typically has on the song but was out that weekend.

Taking even further listen to the slide guitar of Derek Trucks this year on graves and how much more in tune he was with his phrasing unlike tim who just shoots out 10 notes per second. Speed and scale skills don't make great solos, timing and phrasing do.

    LIOG from JAX below:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgUl...sterCopperpot5

Another distinction between Tim vs other guitarists is the Phish + Dave version of So Damn Lucky in Mexico. Mix was a little rough but again Trey's Phrasing and buildup in his playing that song with Dave was better than Tim. Tim typically blows eardrums out with his higher fret playing. Trey instead only made quick trips to the higher frets and then switched to the middle frets and strings and then slid up a little more before going back down.

    See Trey here:

Tim's tone isn't as good as others, don't mind how he plays on SDL, Derek Trucks is pretty much the best electric guitar player in the world
