Christmas on Wednesday or Thursday is the best. It gives you a longer break.

One of the best perks about becoming a teacher to me is getting these mini vacations

I'm getting ready for my year long intern/student-teaching next year. I'm pretty nervous about it and I'm absolutely dreading paying $12,000 for tuition (and not getting paid).

gotta love how student teaching is one of the few unpaid internships around anymore. i had friends getting paid over $25 an hour for their internships

That is exactly why I hate them. The co-op teachers always give too much control too soon. Then the special area teachers, like me, have to deal with the mess. I personally have never had a student teacher and I doubt I ever will.

i think a good co op will play to the student teacher's strengths. i have a problem sitting and doing nothing, so after watching a few of the same lesson on the first day i asked if i could have 8th period. i was glad she gave me control fairly soon, but i can see where a lot of student teachers wouldnt be ready for it

yeah it was hard for KU also...some of the teachers where I student taught told me that they had a bad experience and won't ever take one again, cant blame em. a bad student teacher could mean a ton of work for the co op

in fl we are moving towards teacher pay being tied directly to student achievement.

it's going to get even tougher for interns

Writing a lesson plan for my participation in the elementary school. Kind of lame that the teacher I am shackled me down to what I can do, but I guess I got to work with what she gives me.

provides an incentives for instructors ---> works for the most part

sure you'll have quality teachers leave low-end schools, but that's the nature of the system

Maybe we should start paying police officers based on the crime rate.

So instead of having the freedom of making my own lesson to teach this multiplication I have to do it in the boundaries already set for me. Like I said, I can't complain because she is granting me a great privilege to be in the classroom, it would just have been nicer for more room to work with.

Pre student teaching I guess. I am not trying to be ungrateful, I just was looking forward to more freedom in the plan. I got it done and am teaching it in an hour.

i dont know about your program, but the semester before student teaching we had 4 weeks of being paired with a co op and observing/teaching so you can see they day to day of a classroom.

i was lucky cuz i knew my co op before hand and she let me do whatever i wanted (1st time i ever taught was a HS humanities class..in front of an art teacher, history teacher, english teacher, and 75 seniors..in May lol)

..but most of my friends' experiences werent the same, a lot of them werent allowed to teach and the ones that did werent given much freedom. its hard because you and the teacher dont have time to build a relationship/understanding and you dont really have time to get to know the students

good luck with your lesson today

I have a feeling that if achievement based pay is implemented then you will see more teachers cheating/giving answers on high stakes tests.
