Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe Fandom (MCUc)

Winter Soldier is in the books. I liked getting to the elevator scene and asking my wife if she'd seen how that had become a meme in recent years.

Without looking it up because I'm sure there's been talk of it before, was there never a plan to give Mark Ruffalo Hulk his own film or series, or did they just decide that experiment was over after the Ed Norton flick? Seems like it'd make sense since the core Avengers group now each have had their own film or series (Hawkeye's coming soon).

Universal owns Hulk, so marvel doesn't want to make a standalone movie with him, but he's allowed in other movies. Planet Hulk had to be added into Thor 3.

Without looking it up, I'm almost positive this is the case, but I could be wrong.

I was watching someone watch LotR for the first time, and when Gollum said "my precious", they were like "OH SNAP THAT'S WHERE THAT'S FROM!"

    I love shit like that.

I don't mind spoilers, but I'm not caught up anymore. I have yet to watch the D+ shows, and Black Widow. So I don't have the best of ideas about anything Phase 4.

Quantumania is set to release before F4, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do the timeline thing, bring in the first family, and then fight Kang in Avengers 5.

    Caught up on Loki.

3 episodes of Wandavision in, and its enjoyable, but not to the same extent. I'm really waiting for it to start up.

I remember Namor, I think he was hinted at in Endgame. I didn't realize Hulk came back. In that case, I would love a standalone Hulk movie.

This was based on a report from MCU Cosmic (who's not even in the scoop business anymore). I googled if there'd been any updates. Someone on reddit found the SEC documents, and apparently the distribution rights revert in 2023: https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudi...rights_revert/

Marvel got Hulk production rights back in 2005 (they can make Hulk films/use Hulk in films), but Universal has distribution rights to all Hulk solo movies. No way Disney would ever let Universal distribute a Marvel movie.

Obviously Universal wouldn't give them back early given their contentious relationship with Disney, but maybe this was involved in another deal (like when they wanted out of Hulu).

As I've said, I love rewatching the movies that I never paid enough attention to, now that I pretty much know everyone and everything in the later films and shows. So like the mid-credits scene after Winter Soldier showing Wanda and Pietro for the first time was an exciting moment.

Wandavision doesn't start getting real good until E4. First two eps were meh.

I'm on Ep 8. I think the Agnes thing is kinda lousy. I wish it was just a story about Wanda and Vision.

Surprised they did not provide additional compensation in advance like they did for Gal Gadot when WW1984 went streaming.

Sounds like she was on one of those backend deals like RD jr had that paid a crazy amount.

BUT I don't think in a Pandemic even if it was theaters only it would have gone crazy. So I will be interested to watch this.

I agree with this, but if her deal called for a percentage of gross and also said the movie would open theater exclusive, she certainly lost *some* amount of money by it streaming on opening day as well.

100% just not sure the 50 Million that it alleges. Sorry but this movie was not making Captain Marvel money regardless in a pandemic.

Now Disney deciding to report Revenue from Disney+ which they did opening weekend to make the number look bigger definitely plays in Scarjos favor since they were basically treating it as box office. That number should absolutely be included.

Disney gives a "no merit whatsoever" response to Johansson's pay lawsuit and calls it "sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic."

Disney continued: "Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.”

Marvel Studios did not make the decision….Disney did.

So your original statement about Marvel letting her down makes no sense.

Pretty sure Feige would have preferred to not have it go out on Disney+ Either as he had been pretty adamant about preserving the theatrical experience.

This has actually been happening. WB cut the deal for WW84, so Gal and Patty would help promote the move, but they didn’t loop most people in when they moved the entire 2021 slate to HBO Max. It was a giant headache for them, and Disney learned nothing.

Feige wanted Widow to be theatrical only release. The main person to blame here is Bob Chapek. Not only did he fail to work all this out beforehand. He also helped tank the box office by releasing this during a holiday in China. As a result they never approved the movie for release there and it cut off a big market.

Being the guy to replace Iger and you mess with the Mouse’s Marvel money? Not great Bob.

    such a complicated issue.

from experience of working on big budget sets, i personally think actors are WAY over paid for what they actually do. Is that what she's upset about? Scar Jo is great and all but... pay the set workers and technicians (editor, special effects, etc...) more....they are a large portion of why marvel movies look cool!

It's not about the money. Disney fucked her over on her contract, so she's suing for breech.

it makes sense. she has more than a right to sue, i guess.

it seems like her main issue though is that it isn't going to make as much money as she was promised it would. so they promised her an only theater release? that's not the future of movies unfortunately, as much as i love to go to the theater and still will if i can.

Just watched Civil War. It doesn't really feel like a Captain America movie per se. But lots of good stuff for someone like me who forgot so many things. Like whenever I eventually watched Black Panther, I didn't know that we had already seen him before. And I didn't realize that this was the first introduction to Tom Holland Spider Man, so that's cool.

Recently rewatched Guardians 2 and I don't know how this isn't regarded as the worst film in the catalog. The character moments with Rocket and Yondu are great, but everything else is absolutely awful, between the CGI aging horribly already and the edgy 13 year older jokes, it's not very good.
