Re: Walk Around the Moon

Back in the Nancies.org days, I remember a fair amount of people disliking You Never Know soon after it’s debut for the reason it was DMB trying to recapture the magic and sound like ‘91-‘00 DMB again. Now it’s beloved by newer fans. I think people should move on like that crowd may have.

I don't know, it sounds good to me. I don't love every song the band puts out nowadays, but this one caught my attention in a good way. I like the groove of the verses with the horns adding some punch. The chorus is very catchy and I dig it. It also has a nice flute solo at the end. I'm not sure about the bridge yet, but I am a big fan of everything else.

i'm here as one of the resident grumps to say i dig this song. The riff is like a slowed-modified intro to Help Myself...

The flute jam at the end is icing on the cake.

I like the chorus, but the vocals, especially during the intro / first verse, are a bit of a mess I really dislike that messy falsetto that he does at the start. Wish he could craft a solid melody that he can sing with ease and sounds clean.

Listen to the Charlotte version, much cleaner on the intro. Either way this song is a banger and I love it.

Yeah I heard it - was definitely 20x better than the Raleigh version. Hoping it’s good on the studio version.

I think the music was just so good from 91-01 and tour songs from 01-07, that the #1's and #3's of your breakdown will always carry a glimmer of hope that the genius who created those songs of the aforementioned years, has, potentially, a few more of those gems in him. Nothing more complicated than that.

Judging by the poll numbers, if there's something wrong with anyone here, that'd be you.

I don’t like the vocal delivery at first, but I suspect it will be better on the album. I think this is a great song. I may be misremembering, but I’d say this is the best debut off a new album in a long time.

I would guess they have rehearsed it a bunch of times during this little break, and it will get cleaner. I'm looking forward to the next version.

The outro is the best I've heard from a new song in a very long time. It's very loose and chill.

I’m type 4. I know a bad song when I hear one regardless of who wrote it or how long I’ve been a fan.

I like it but wish Dave would stop having vocals that are so high he is straining to hit them in the live setting.

Only slightly related, but just as a personal anecdote (no clue how music hits you) I didn't really care for this song on my first, and second listen. But I'm that way with most songs by most bands. Usually takes me a little while to get going. If I get around 5 and I still don't dig it...well, I probably don't like it.

But I've also had some rare instances where I've revisited things that didn't pass the 5 test later and then fell in love with them. Shit, sometimes that's like years later.

So who knows. Music definitely hits different people differently.

Riff driven, non-straight forward melody, fleshed out contributions from all band members, non-bland arrangement, outro with a bit of a solo and good underlying groove. Regardless of how the execution off those things personally hits you, these are things that are typically part of good dmb tunes. So good to see they have a presence in this song.
