Spin-Off: Top Cities You Most Want to Visit

There's no way I can narrow it down to three throughout the world, so feel free to break it up by US/North America and overseas.

Top 3 North America:

Toronto
Austin
Seattle

Overseas:

Rome, Italy
Paris, France
London, England

Tokyo is a great choice, as is Vancouver. There are so many places overseas that it would probably be better to break it up by continent. On top of that, there are a ton of places I have been to, but it's either been so long since I have been there or my time was so brief, that they deserve a category of their own. San Fran, NYC, DC, Honolulu, Vegas, and Sydney being among them.

I know it's cliche, but NY has so much to offer outside the "tourist traps"

They can certainly be worth it, and I would recommend doing them 100% of the time (except ESB, would recommend Top of the Rock every single time). But there's just so much more to do and see outside of them that the city really isn't something you can do in less than 3 days.

I absolutely loved NY the one time I went, but I was indeed there for only two days and literally only scratched the surface. I recently talked to one of my best friends about going there for my vacation next year. This year is California, with most of the time spent in L.A., but hoping to get a trek up north for a couple days in San Fran.

Definitely visit wine country. LA has lots to offer but CA is a huge state and has weeks of stuff to offer for everybody.

I don't think I'd be very comfortable with Tokyo at all, I mean it's like almost literally wall to wall people, right? like the congestion of NYC times 1000.

For myself, the answer to this question is the same it's been since many years ago, and far and away my #1 choice: London.

No, thank god. We stayed on 75 whereas I believe it was 285 that collapsed.

Lived in L.A. when I was a youngin' so it's a big nostalgia visit. Napa Valley looks beautiful but I am also not much of a drinker so I probably won't go out of my way to do much there.

However, I am already considering a move to California so if I can make that feasible, there will be so much more time to do everything that Cali has to offer.

Fair enough. When are you going? Feel free to PM for rec's, I spent 5 weeks in CA for work all over the state a few years back. There's lots to do everywhere, probably my second favorite state out of the 28 I've been to.

Some time in the summer, but haven't set my dates yet. I will definitely take you up on that offer - especially for restaurant recommendations.

Jackson Hole is soooooo beautiful. What you see in pictures, video doesn't do it justice. The summer before my senior year of high school, I spent time out there and Yellowstone, with my dad, aunt and uncle. One of the days in Jackson, we did a river raft tour with the Grand Tetons as the back drop. Can honestly say looking back on it, that was one of the best days of my life.

Definitely feel free. I still have lots of contacts out there if there's anything I don't know. I will say, SF was probably the best city I've ever spent time in and I was on crutches 80% of the time.

Green Tortoise Inn is a hostel definitely worth the nightly fee, phenomenal place to stay. Can honestly say don't even bother looking elsewhere.

One of the days in Jackson, we did a river raft tour with the Grand Tetons as the back drop. Can honestly say looking back on it, that was one of the best days of my life.
My cousin had a destination wedding out there. There weddings photos are backdropped by the mountains. The photos were incredible. I wasn't able to go and completely regret it so I need to get out there as soon as I can.

Am I the only one with very little ambition to travel outside the US?

you don't need any sort of special visa if you just plan to visit a foreign country for like a week or two for pleasure, right? You just need a passport?

I may have driven completely cross country in both directions over the years, but never been outside the lines of the continuous 48.
