The lack of non-Vegas in the Summer always surprises me.

Oh well...H Bowl is 2 stops away on the Metro! Count me the fuck in!

Stateline is like, 360 miles from Vegas. It’s crazy.

I'm assuming WH for Hollywood Bowl is too risky? What are people going to be doing to try to get tickets for this show?

Sign me up. Their 2012 show at the Bowl to close that tour was surprisingly great. See y'all there.

AHhhhh yes, the show that started as “The Big Whiskey Album Release Show” until someone whispered in Dave’s ear that it was supposed to be for AFTW.

While I am not going to HB this year, nor do I especially like the venue, but HB will always hold a special place for me... Oct 2007, two nights, tons of time with great people, #41 with John Mayer, #34 with lyrics, Exodus with the Marley Brothers and the last time I saw Roi on stage with the band.

Crowd was terrible there in 2012. I remember Dave mocking the people in the front for talking on their cell phones. Unless I can get into the lower bowl this venue is a pass. Really bummed there's no alternative So Cal venue.

I'll be there if I'm still living in LA.

But wtf with these $150 prices?

Yup, those were my first shows after moving to Los Angeles. Very special place in my heart. How luck we are to have seen Roi on #34 for the last time.

Yeah L.A crowd is pretty awful. I remember that , too. Dave saying he was intimidated playing there because people are just on their cell phones like "Yeah! I'm at Dave!" haha

But I'm not gonna let that ruin my show. I had a great time. Raven, Dreaming Tree with Stanley Jordan, nice little Water Into Wine. Was not expecting any surprises at all that show so was pleasantly surprised.

I've had the same experiences at Irvine and Chula Vista. I am from the east coast, and can tell you with 100% certainty, you will not get the kind of energy at a show in California as you would at Camden or SPAC or many other east coast venues. That's just the nature of the crowd differences. There's a lot more casual fans on the west coast! On the plus side, you never have to worry about rain!

I've never seen Dave at Hollywood Bowl, but the setup isn't really an ideal "Dave atmosphere" with all of the entire front sections of the venue being "boxes" where you have tables and chairs and you can order food and drinks from a waitress. I do wish they were playing at Chula Vista again though - easiest PIT tickets to get for any venue.

As someone from the east coast, seeing the shift in crowds both tailgating and at the show was quite an adjustment for me. I miss that east coast feel at shows.

Yup, Hartford was my home venue from 2000 to 2006. The crowds were... enthusiastic, putting it lightly haha. But I was an animal back then myself so didn't mind it. Those were the days of the two or three night stands there. Definitely people who were excited about the music. Not so much with Cali.

Hollywood Bowl crowd was way better than Chula Vista imo. Chula was the most uninterested crowd I've ever been a part of.

Went to my first SPAC in '16. THAT was the most intense crowd I've witnessed! Even more than Gorge crowd.

I love Chula and agree on the pit size. When i lived in Orange County, Chula was the one venue I looked forward to every year. Irvine was always hit and miss with me, even though I lived 15 min from Irvine. I went back to Chula last year for the first time since 2011 (moved to NYC in summer 2012.) While the pit is great, probably the largest pit on tour, the crowd was so disinterested this past year. I was 10 rows off the pit and people were sitting down. It seemed like everyone behind the 100 section was sitting down when I looked back there. Robert Randolph came out and it was like the had brought out some dead guy. There was no reaction.

Maybe it was 5 years of east coast shows, but man, it was an eye opener to see the large difference in the crowds and 'feeling' at a show.

BTW, SPAC '16 was great! When they started Last Stop... wow that place got load.

Of the venues I've been to over the years, there is nothing like a SPAC crowd. God I miss that being my home venue.

So... looks like I'm trading SPAC for the Hollywood Bowl. Wish I was able to postpone my move to September.

Tickets easy to grab? I likely won't pull the trigger on this until late in the game as a back up if I don't make a trip to the Gorge happen.

Tickets should be relatively easy to grab. Not as avid a fandom in these parts. You'll be able to find something way closer to the actual date.

I'm also CA via CT. Grew up in Milford. What about you?

Sweet, good to hear. I did Chula and Irvine in 2016 since I was out there for work and those tickets were pretty easy - especially Chula.

Born and raised in Stamford, picking up and headed to San Diego sometime in May.

Was also born in Stamford. San Diego's a cool town, though I don't make it down there all that often. Welcome to the west coast in advance.

Nice! Love it here, but California was ingrained in my mind at a young age and it's finally becoming a reality - so pumped.

Hoping I love SD as much as I have in visiting. I've been around a decent amount (LA County, San Fran, Monterrey), but there was a connection to San Diego which made me feel it's the place for me personally. Did the whole apartment tour with the girlfriend in October and we landed on a few we'd love to move in to. Worst case scenario is we find another place withing SD (or town/city) to move to for year 2.

Tickets easy to grab? I likely won't pull the trigger on this until late in the game as a back up if I don't make a trip to the Gorge happen.

Tickets will be easy to grab. However, good tickets will not be easy to grab.

This is true. If you don't mind sitting on the far side of the venue, or towards the back, it will be easy to get a ticket. You will be sitting on benches, so it can sometimes get cramped. Expect anything in the lower half of the Bowl and not off to the side, to be difficult and expensive to acquire. Those are mostly Boxes, so they do avoid the benches, and sound is usually better. There are also actual individual Seats in a couple of Center sections directly behind the Boxes, but those are also very hard to come by.

Oh yeah, and parking is fun. Not my favorite venue, but the day Irvine Meadows closed, I figured this would be their go to when they visit L.A. Even better, it's on a Monday. Yay!

Yea, no tailgating at this venue. But at least there are a ton of bars near by to pre game.

Are most of the boxes still reserved for season ticket holders? I recall this being an issue back on 07. I was stubbed down to a box by someone that bought tickets through a reseller for N1, then sat on the benches for N2. Benches were fine, cramped as mentioned above, but we were center so the view was good.

    Hi All!

Considering this show next year but have a question. From reading the comments thus far it seems like the crowds are laid back compared to east coast crowds... are there any areas, even if its towards the top that would be laid back if we brought our 8 year old? She's been to a few shows already but in places around PA that are a bit more family friendly... Pittsburgh, Bristow and CMAC for D&T. I am a big time Rams fan so waiting for that schedule to come out to see if they will be opening at home which would most likely make this a go for us! Also put in for D&T tickets next weekend in NYC so that may put the skids to this too but just wanted to get some information...

    Thanks in advance!

Basically the whole place is pretty relaxed. Great spot for an 8 year old. The speakers are awesome and relaxed, but bring ear plugs just in case you’re afraid of noise for the lil’ one.
