I can remember one show where they had maybe 5 people in the audience in a room that held close to 500. It makes me real proud of them to see how much they've blown up.

The first time I saw them, in Portland, there was maybe 30-40 people there, next time I'm seeing them is at the sold out Ryman! I'm super happy to see them get the success they have earned and deserved.

Not sure what you're trying to say.

I'm genuinely happy these guys are seeing success. I've seen lots of bands that didn't have anyone at the show and they're nothing now. It's nice to see a band that I really enjoy have success.

Not trying to be a guy...just telling a story.

I still can't get enough of the Daybreaker album. Just so good. Savannah definitely one of my favorites on it.

Savannah and Year Zero are my two favorite probably. Them opening their sold out show at the Ryman back in April with Year Zero was nuts. The crowd just went fucking wild, it's a phenomenal way to start a show.

I never listened to them before, but I'm going to Lockn' this year so I picked up Daybreaker when they were a late addition to the bill. It's a fun little album, but it also seems like the songs are a little too 'anthemic' for me; almost like the band 'fun.' itself. Am I way off base here? I feel like I have to be.

Great song as well. Could definitely see that as an awesome opener.

Yeah, you are Daybreaker is definitely the poppiest album they've released, check out their other albums to get a more solid vibe of the band's sound. They're a very good and fun live show though, the songs translate very well live.

Daybreaker was okay at best on my first listen but I love it a little more each time now. It's a very, very solid album. The songs translate very well live.

That said, it is their most "pop" album yet, but they sorta followed the trend of leaving the jam scene and moving to the more indie/alt stuff. I remember interviewing them right before Cabaret came out (the album where their style really noticeably changed) and they were talking about how they weren't listening to the Dead & Phish that much anymore and they were listening to all sorts of stuff like pop and 80s music. Not to mention, Wes the keyboard player, has taken a larger role in the band and has greatly changed the sound.

Daybreaker is my favorite album of theirs. It's the one I come back to most often. Saw them in Charlotte back in January, god they are so good.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. With Lockn' being centered on jam bands, they just seemed out of place based on that album. Looks like I'll have to start digging deeper. Thanks for the heads up.

I feel the same way about it. I wasn't the biggest fan of it at first. But definitely has grown on me.

Not a big fan of the new album on first listen. I feel like they tried to make 10 "Two High" style radio hits. I actually do like "Two High", but the rest is pretty meh for me unfortunately. I have loved every album up until now, hopefully it grows on me a little.

agree. to be honest, the album sucks. you can tell they went for a much poppier sound and it doesn't work. the songs sound nice but are super generic and bland and the lyrics sound like they were written by a 5th grader. Trouble is really the only good track on there.

Only done one listen but I wasn't in love with it.

I wasn't a big fan of Mountains Beaches Cities. A lot of the songs on that album didn't feel full fleshed out. Daybreaker was a super strong album given their new direction.

I guess I just really miss the Melodica days.

I think the new songs are fine, but not absolutely loving them. "Now's The Time" seems like it'd be fun live and will probably be on the radio a bunch.

"Trouble" and "Two High" are certainly better than both of the new ones IMO, but yea, the last album was pretty weak.

yeah, I should have clarified that it's not really a return to form type of sound, but the pop quality is definitely better than what their last album offered. now's the time absolutely bangs, love that outro, which should be great live.

I feel like with Moon Taxi they're on an every other album streak. Every other album is weak.

    Melodica - GREAT
    Live Ride - Weak
    Cabaret - Good
    Mountains Beaches Cities - Weak
    Daybreaker - Good
Let the Record Play - Weak

That said, I enjoy LTRP and MBC. There's some good tracks on them but both are significantly weaker than Melodica, Cabaret, Daybreaker.

A lot of why I feel that way is I was a fan from the Melodica days. That was my album. Cabaret wasn't enough of a departure from that style to really rattle me. When MBC came out it was sooooo different from Melodica. It felt like the band was selling out. So some of my projection is that bias.

Definitely a totally different band than they were with Melodica. I get liking more of that jamband sound vs. popier songs, I just love almost all of Mountains Beaches Cities. The last few songs are the only ones I rarely listen to, so it's a great album for me to throw on.

Let the Record Play felt like a sell out album to me so I get what you mean, was just surprised to see any MBC hate because it's my favorite album by them.

I started listening to them in between Cabaret and MBC.

Let the Record Play felt like a sell out album to me so I get what you mean, was just surprised to see any MBC hate because it's my favorite album by them.

I started listening to them in between Cabaret and MBC.
Thing is too, even though I say those albums are weak, I've grown to enjoy all of them. I listened to LTRP this morning and the gym and really, really enjoy it. I didn't love Daybreaker when it first came out but now I think it's their second best album.

A lot of their newer sound is definitely grower not shower. Some of it I like immediately but for the most part there's still an adjustment period. Whether that's because I still long for more Melodica or I'm just not as hip as I think I am, I'm not sure.

Re: Moon Taxi (funky new band)

Maybe the new songs need to grow on me. Didn’t care for them on first listen.
