Re: New Nintendo console in 2017

I bought a switch when it came out with Zelda and loved it. I ended up selling it to a friend and while I miss it, I can totally wait a little bit for some more games to come out. I feel like I'll buy one around this time next year for the main core Pokemon game, and load up on some Mario, Civilization, and others.

Isn't there a new Switch being released in the near future (next 6 months maybe?)?

I got a little burnt out from Breath Of The Wild, but played it for the first time in maybe about 6 months. It’s still awesome.

Awesome that fans had the opportunity to ask Mark about DMB. Hopefully he didn't catch the red glare of anyone else involved.

Theyre remaking Mario Galaxy for the switch I read somewhere, which is great because I never had a Wii.

I'm getting a Switch for Christmas. Got the Mario Kart Bundle and Mario Odyssey. I also believe I have Zelda coming my way as well.

Any other game recommendations ya'll have?

Also just ordered a switch. They had a decent deal online where you could get two additional controllers for free (or two additional wireless controllers for a $8/each). I also grabbed Mario tennis and Mario party.

We bought Dominic a Switch too - the MK8D bundle with a couple extra joy cons and a bunch of accessories.

I want to buy Super Smash Brothers and the Zelda game as well.

I was thinking of Mario Party but was reading some stuff online about how it can get old pretty quick.

That should just about do it. Maybe get Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze if you never played it for the Wii U. That is a great game. Odyssey and Zelda are definitely must haves, but I haven't been interested in much else. Some people like Smash Brothers, but I have never really been a fan of those games.

Mario Tennis Aces is incredibly fun.

I can't decide if I actually want the switch, or if I'm just bored.

I don't really play much in the way of new games these days. I bought an Xbox One S last year and it came with Madden...played that for a bit but it got old. Most of the time if I play a game, I'll hook up my N64 or the NES/SNES classics and play Mario, the original smash bros, Goldeneye, or similar.

But hearing all the good things about Mario Odyssey and Zelda make me want a switch. And the portable nature of it.

First bolded- yes these games always get old for me too, same with the shooting games

Second bolded- if you do this, you will 100% enjoy the switch with Zelda/ Mario, these never get old for me and I still play them over a year of having them both.

Agreed. Mario Odyssey is such a triumph and Breath of the Wild is up there with my absolute favorite Nintendo games ever.

Mario Party is good to have when you're with a group of people, because any age group can participate and have a good time. I enjoy it quite a bit, it's just not the kind of game you're going to want to play all of the time.

How does Mario Odyssey compare to Mario 64 or even Galaxy? Those are the most "modern" mario games I've ever played. Similar ease in playability?

And in general, how are the Switch controllers? I demoed it for a few minutes at a best buy once and found it tough and the controllers a bit cheap feeling. But could have been the fact that A) the controllers are attached to the wall and it's really close to the screen and B) they'd been used non stop by customers

I actually think Odyssey surpasses Galaxy in every way, as you would hope for in the next step of Mario-centric games. And I really enjoyed Galaxy.

Controls are very similar to 64 with some new moves. If you've played any recent Mario games, you'll pick things up instantly. The addition of Cappy is great and adds a fresh feel. The Switch is a way better console than the Wii was, and as such, the graphics are fantastic. All of the new worlds look beautiful. A lot of them are very well thought out. Gameplay is GREAT. It's just really a fantastic game and I had a blast playing it. I think you will too.

As far as the joy cons are concerned, I like them a lot. A lot more free-feeling and not as clunky as the Wii remotes. The added versatility means you can really play the game however you feel comfortable. You can slide the joy cons into the classic "controller" vehicle provided, or play them free hand. Super fun either way, and you don't feel like the game is biased towards either configuration. Although playing free-hand is particularly fun with Odyssey for me.

Ya they give you a base to put the joy cons in to play as a controller, but I actually prefer using the joy cons over the controller.

Odyssey is on par with 64/ Galaxy

Being a person that never played Zelda growing up either and playing for the first time ever for the switch, I think it might be my favorite game ive ever played.

I'm in the same boat. Never grew up playing Zelda at all, but Breath of the Wild is just THAT good.

I think you need games with stories or level progression. Something with variety. Madden or other sports games are just repetitive nonsense.

And in general, how are the Switch controllers? I demoed it for a few minutes at a best buy once and found it tough and the controllers a bit cheap feeling. But could have been the fact that A) the controllers are attached to the wall and it's really close to the screen and B) they'd been used non stop by customers

I highly recommend getting a Pro controller, if you go the Switch route. It's a great controller.

If you have kids, it's a great purchase. The kids play it all the time and take it on road trips and whatnot.
