Anyone ever dealt with a neighbor wanting to trim your trees that hang over their yard? My neighbor has mentioned it to me before and texted me last night wanting to talk about it today. I'm mostly fine with it as long as it's reasonable and they don't hack up my tree or mess up my fence obviously. She's just (unnecessarily, IMO) worried about the tree falling on her bedroom, which, as high up as it is, the tree is very thin at that point and it probably wouldn't even break a window. Plus we had a tree guy out recently and they took down one cypress and said even if those trees fall, they're so lightweight they'll just bounce off the house.

I'm sure she'll use a legit, licensed tree company and all that. Just wondering if there's anything I should say or keep in mind as far as covering my ass.

I would just ask to speak with the arborist/tree removal company before work got started so everyone is on the same page. Because your kind of in a tough spot now that she’s notified you of her concern. Let’s say the tree falls and somehow does damage her property, well your insurance company (or small claims court) might find u liable since a) you breached a duty to maintain the property and b) had knowledge of the risk.

With the weather getting down into the 70's and low 80's plus some regular rain, I've been needing to mow every 4 days the last couple weeks. Grass is really looking great right now.

Was back in CT over the weekend for a wedding and man, the drought was evident. It's always drier in August, but it was noticeably bad. My parents back and front yards have been reduced to straw and dirt.

Anyone ever try dormant overseed? The drought this summer destroyed some pretty big patches in our yard. I hate overseeding in the fall because the healthy spots can't really go four weeks without a mow. I'm thinking if I lay seed mid-late November it should be good, but I don't want to spend the money on seed and not have it germinate in the spring.

Trying to decide whether or not to aerate this weekend. I cut lower earlier this week so I could cut down to dethatch height tomorrow and then dethatch in the afternoon. That would give me time to pick up the aerator in the evening and get started aerating Sunday morning. The plan works but I would prefer to do it a little later in September. The next few weekends will not work unfortunately.

I'm dethatching either today or tomorrow and then aerating/overseeding Tuesday. Love this time of year. Half of my front lawn went dormant with this heat wave so I'm excited to get things back in primo shape.

Might be my last night-mow of year since the days are getting shorter. But at least it's cooling off. I don't think I'd mowed in maybe 2-3 weeks anyway, so the next one could be a ways off, if at all.

Also seeding this week. I splurged and got some really high-quality seed this year. Gonna head over to Home Depot and get some fert.

I was at Lowe's yesterday, and Milo is $18/bag. That is nuts.

Had seed coming up by Thursday. I've never had it germinate so fast. Could really use some rain to help me with watering.

Well this exact scenario came up. But instead of the neighbor being the sole party, their insurance company is involved! Apparently they had a claim and the adjuster sent a note to underwriting advising that unless I (or they) trim the trees to mitigate risk, they’ll cancel the neighbors policy.

What sucks is that I spent a good chunk of money trimming them less than a year ago. But the lots are so small that it’s not hard for my big ass pistachio and bradford pears to over hang into neighbors property line.

Insurance companies are dumb. Signed, long time adjuster

Yeah I'm seeing some germination in the backyard with the shade mix I put back there. The KBG blend I put in the front is gonna be another week or so.

Watering is such a pain. Seriously considering putting in irrigation in the front because I'm so sick of moving the fucking sprinkler around so much every year around this time

Last weekend was probably the last nice weekend we'll have here until next spring unless we get lucky. Yesterday, I mowed, dethatched, and then mowed again to bag up all the dethatched material as well as trimmed and edged. It was 4 straight hours of non-stop labor, but I'm glad to have it done.

Did the same last weekend. The dethatcher i bought ealrier this summer is awesome. It's crazy the amount of thatch that was hiding underneath my grass. I really wish i purchased this dethatcher a few years ago.

Front yard is starting to really fill in nicely, but I'm switching over to KBG this year so it's obviously taking a bit longer than the TTTF I've used the past few years.

Back yard is a different story. The soil back there just absolutely sucks and gets so damn compacted. I put a primarily creeping red fescue/TTTF mix back there since it's only part sun, and I've definitely got a decent amount of growth thus far, but I can just tell it's not taking as well as it should be due to the soil.

So now I'm thinking I need to dress with topsoil this upcoming weekend and get a bit more seed down while temps are still relatively favorable. Probably gonna need about 5-6 yards to get a 1/2" layer, so I've definitely got my work in for me

Yeah, I needed six 30 gallon bags to bag up all of the grass it pulled up. That was basically 15 lawn mower bags worth over about 8000 square feet of grass.

My trimmer finally died. My plan was to get the electric to match my mower but it doesn't get great reviews. I may buy a Toro gas trimmer from our local mower shop. I'll check them out on Monday.
