It’s a little too tweety bird for me but I’ve gotten over it

Do You Remember is growing on me. Chopped up Frankenstein Idea of You is getting harder and harder to listen to.

It's a great album, and has a perfect flow. a concept album is tough on one hand because things have to go in a certain order, but if you arrange it right it works. it's not for everyone and I understand that. to me I think its perfect as is. I've been listening to it on my ride to and from work everyday.

I'm glad DMB took a small stab at a concept album. Not as story board as Clockwork Angels and Mylo Xyloto, but still great

Come Tomorrow, is a collection of songs both new and old that, when it sizzles, captures the Charlottesville collective’s fun-loving, down-home essence. As per usual, Matthews’s taste for cheese makes some of this music a hard sell.

    Good read.

    3. Come On Come On
    4. Samurai Cop
    5. Virginia in the Rain
    6. Idea of You

    9. That Girl Is You
    10. Black & Blue Bird
    11. When I'm Weary
    12. Come Tomorrow

Come On Come On keeps climbing for me. Probably because I have gotten past the lyrics and just have fun with it. Haven't connected with B&BB yet but it is a good song and well produced. The crazy part is that all 12 songs I listed I actually like. It's a terrible terrible DMB album but it is a collection of nice music with a few really good songs sprinkled in the mix. In time we will see how the album stands up. No pun intended

So glad they toned the horns down this record. The canned horns are fine when minimized and used correctly and they nailed it this time around.

But it isn't like they cut ONLY canned horn lines.

They cut out horns entirely from far too many songs.

I'm curious, what songs do you think they cut the horns out that shouldn't have?

I would agree, I'd love to hear them keep another 30 seconds or so of the ending to Again and Again which contains horns in the live version. Other than that, I don't think shoehorning horns is really the style I like to hear from this band. It allows the songs to breath. VITR and even Come On Come On are great examples of that.

Finally, someone who digs "Samurai Cop!" Not hating on anyone's opinion but I have seen a lot of people putting SC down towards the bottom of this album. I think it's just beautiful...

I think I am pretty much alone in this one, but "Here On Out" is my favorite song on the album, with SC a close 2nd.

"Virginia in the Rain" is the one that is growing on me and I find stuck in my head this morning at work...

I'm trying to get into "She" but no success so far....

I’m sure it has a lot to do with how long the studio cut has been out. It’s fantastic, and it has turned into a polarizing song live.

This is a band with two horn players in it. You wouldn't know that listening to this album. You'd think they just had some session guys come in for a few minutes to lay down some background fills.

I don't want horns shoehorned in either, but I disagree with the notion that Jeff and Rashawn couldn't write parts that fit the songs, if given the chance.

Yea, it was well received both live and studio but doesn't seem to have a ton of staying power.

I was thinking the same thing... Plus, for me, I have listened to the incredible Dave and Tim acoustic version of Samurai Cop from Farm Aid about 700 times before the album dropped...

I thought it may get less rotation once the album came out due to the other tunes being new to my ear, but it has remained up there near the top for me!

They should have kept the horn breakdown in Samurai Cop from live versions instead of shoehorning a Tim solo that is just completely out of place with the song. Again and Again needs horns throughout as a backing instrumentation and fills in the chorus. Black and Blue Bird needs the sax outro. That Girl is You would be a lot better if they recorded it the way they've played it live that includes horns.

The problem I have is that the album is already more or less Boyd-less. Violin being prominent in the mix was part of what gave DMB their sound, and the other piece to that was Saxophone. This album has a limited amount of each and thus barely sounds like DMB at all. It's a glorified Dave solo album (which is fine, and I like a lot of the songs, don't get me wrong), not a DMB album.

Got my physical copy and bonus disc in the mail yesterday. Anyone else notice that Boyd is completely scrubbed from that disc too? I only have the 7 song version and I realize Boyd didn't play on 2 of them, but I'm still surprised. You can't hear him at all on a '97 version of Minarets, back when he was very prevalent in the sound of the band

I get it, but they honestly don't need to be in every verse and chorus on every song this band makes. Roi was a different story, his playful soulful playing was welcomed and fit in every song the band made until his death.

VITR is a perfect example of how horns should sound on a 4.0 DMB song and Tim as well.

    1. Again and Again
    2. That Girl is You
    3. Cant Stop
    4. Come On Come On
    5. Black and Blue Bird
    6. Virginia in the Rain
    7. Idea of You
    8. She
    9. Do You Remember
    10. Here On Out
    11. Samurai Cop
    12. Come Tomorrow
    13. When I'm Weary

and really I like all of it quite a bit. I've listened to SamCop a little much and so i just need a break from it. I'm surprised that more people don't like the new Cant Stop, cus that song is a fricken banger now. basically 1 - 3 is set for me right now, but 4 - 10 is pretty interchangeable, love it all though

It's a glorified Dave solo album (which is fine, and I like a lot of the songs, don't get me wrong), not a DMB album.

Adding to that feeling, a band that has Carter freaking Beauford in it has a song on their new album where Dave Matthews plays percussion. I mean... why??

VITR is a perfect example of how horns should sound on a 4.0 DMB song and Tim as well.

I think there's some middle ground between barely on the album at all and on every verse and chorus on every song.

I’m noticing so far that a handful of the songs on the album are better live because they can breathe more and include the horns.

This album is just another run of the mill rock/pop album and there's nothing special here. Too many bland, uneventful melodies with absolutely little to no lyrical thought.

The orchestra is nice to try and fill Boyd but it misses for me and the decreased horn section have turned this into generic rock.

I'll gladly keep on with Nate Rateliff and the Night Sweats. Getting much better, quality entertainment from them right now any ways.

I mean cool. This hardly addresses the point of my post.

Trying to pass off judgement on a song when you wont even sit through a full 3 minutes and 17 seconds is just dumb.

But isn't that every non-DMB fan's opinion about DMB music though?

    "Uh, is that elevator music?"

Awesome that fans had the opportunity to ask Mark about DMB. Hopefully he didn't catch the red glare of anyone else involved.
