Re: New Album: "Come Tomorrow" Coming June 8th.

Long time reader, first time poster (in a while).

Been to a few shows - 34 now? First show was '98.

This album is one of my most recent favorites. There are 5 really solid songs on here. I changed the order of my favorites every day, so pay no attention to order:

Come on Come on
Virginia in the Rain
Samurai Cop
Can't Stop
She
Idea of You
Black and blue bird

Those to me are clear winners. While Come on Come on is VERY over produced, it has deep grooves and I would be very excited if it were played live (unless they have Buddy play weird synth). The lyrics on Come on Come on are some of my favorite, and while this may be considered "bad" in some circles - the structural cadence of the song remind me of the song "Crash" or "don't drink the water". It's a song of many parts. Love it.

Another unique top song for me is Virginia in the Rain. I don't even know where to start on this song. It's fantastic. I want to listen to it over and over. It makes me focus. It makes me get into a "f yeah Carter" groove. I also enjoy that the song is 6 minutes. The fact it's that long gets me excited. period.

The rest not commented on that are listed above are just good DMB studio songs. They will be better live but I still enjoy them studio.

The remainder of the album:

Do you Remember... probably the only non-fave song I'll tolerate

Again and Again... I like this slightly better than Do you Remember... so my comment above applies to this as well.

That girl is you... haven't listened all the way through. When they released it as the second single I stopped listening 2/3 of the way through. I checked out a live version and was intrigued and thought to give it a chance, but still didn't make it all the way through. I just... Don't like Dave's voice on it.

When I'm weary - Ok I guess? Don't really need to hear Dave play piano or try to be poetic by himself.

Here on out - Forgot how it goes and don't feel like playing it to complete this review. I have listened all the way through though.

Come tomorrow - I HATE THIS SONG. Brandie I'm into, although she might have ruined her street cred singing on it.

bkd - I enjoy this song, but why put it out? Weird.

Overall, I'm thankful for this album, one of my faves they've released in a bit.

I want to like DYR, but the way he sings the "do yooooooouuuuuuu remember when weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" part is just too cringy for me. I like the music though.

Some of you are ridiculous. Even if you don’t like it, I think you can handle another 45 seconds.

And if you’re not listening to the outro from the Atlanta version you’re just doing yourself a disservice.

I'm glad the 25 people saying this album is terrible got tired of repeating themselves. This is a great album. Anyone I have shown it to in the last week has come away with multiple songs that they were really into. That's what good music does.

    its their 2nd worst

no focus on the band, trite redundant lyrics and odd editing . only thing worthy of a listen now and again is Bob Law, VITR, IOY, When I'm Weary

The only songs I listen to off this are Come On Come On, Do You Remember, Again and Again, and Idea of You. So there's my multiple. Glad you're enjoying it though. 4 out of 13 songs doesn't equal a great album to me.

It feels like a team I've been rooting for finally made the playoffs again. Taking the analogy further, maybe CT doesn't represent a championship win for me, but it's certainly a return to form. Yes, the lyrics are cheesy at times. But when taken as a whole, it shines so much more often than it disappoints. I'm proud of Dave. CT is honest. It’s joyful. It's sweet without feeling forced. It strives for innocence in a time when we desperately need it. It’s trying to remind us of who we are. And it sounds like Dave. I think I love it. And if it's not yet love, it's a severe liking at the least.

I first found this band in 1994, as a high school student, when I heard Ants Marching on MTV in the middle of the night. The song literally woke me up from sleeping. I bought UTTAD the next day and I was hooked. Since then, I have bought each of the albums on the day they came out. I was elated by Crash and then BTCS. I was there when the band hit its apex (and what an apex that was). And then I was there with the slide - I was incredibly disappointed with Everyday, confused by the shelving of tLWS, frustrated that BS wasn't tLWS (unfairly, I admit), downright angry about Stand Up, mildly relieved (and annoyed at the same time) with BWGGK, and, finally, by the time AFTW came out, I didn't feel much of anything at all. I liked a few songs, but didn't listen to it much at all.

All the while, I went to as many live shows as I could and loved what they did there (somewhere over 50 since 1996), and I wondered when an album would give me the feeling that the earlier albums did. And this one, at long last, does. When UTTAD, Crash, and BTCS came out, I was able to listen to them free from the peril of expectation. I just put them in and let them play. It was a beautiful thing. They became the soundtrack of my life. For whatever reason, something similar is happening with CT. Now, I'm not suggesting CT is their equivalent. I'm not even trying to compare them. But like the Big 3, I am just letting CT play. It’s easy. I don’t have to think about it. It just feels right. And that’s all I need.

We all know this band isn’t perfect. The band has failed, and the band has succeeded. But this band is, without a doubt, very special. This band's music has brought me so much joy over such a long period of time that, more than anything, I'm thankful I continue to get new music from them that can still make me, at times, feel the same way I did that first time I listened to UTTAD as a fifteen year old, when the world was young and possibilities were endless. That’s a priceless thing. I'm glad I have been on this musical journey with them as a fan. It hasn’t always been perfect. But it’s been one hell of a ride.
Fist raised in solidarity for this post...

The more I listen, the more I like it. It’s definitely taking time though. I remember thinking BWAGGK was a masterpiece at first and then fell out of love the more I listened, so maybe this is a good sign.

The outro is great but I can't understand why I have to turn the volume down for 2 minutes so Dave can scream like a sick cat.....

This album is just another run of the mill rock/pop album and there's nothing special here. Too many bland, uneventful melodies with absolutely little to no lyrical thought.

The orchestra is nice to try and fill Boyd but it misses for me and the decreased horn section have turned this into generic rock.

I'll gladly keep on with Nate Rateliff and the Night Sweats. Getting much better, quality entertainment from them right now any ways.

Top 5 for me so far:

Black and Blue Bird - This song is pure DMB. Maybe not the best lyrics, but the music is phenomenal. Should have been longer, but hearing every band member in the mix is wonderful
Do You Remember - Should have been the first single. Great summer song with some wider appeal
Bob Law (Again and Again) - This is funky as hell! Has a Genesis/Peter Gabriel feel to me. Love every bit of what's there, though I do wish there was more sax as there was in the 2015 live versions
VitR - Was never a huge fan of this live, but this is a perfect studio track. Lots of Radiohead vibes
Here on Out - A great Dave solo song. The orchestra is beautiful and it is a perfectly simple song. Not 100% crazy about its placement on a DMB album, but it is a great song

Side note, I got 3 of the 5 CDs I was supposed to get from my tickets...got shipping notice for 3, have no clue about where the other 2 are.

Anyone else obsessed with Come On Come On?

Also, Black and Bluebird might be their best produced studio cut in awhile

I've had Come On Come On stuck in my head all day. I think it's a great song. Probably in my top 3:

    1. Virginia in the Rain
    2. Black and Blue Bird
    3. Come On Come On
    4. Do You Remember
    5. She

Been a big advocate for the album. Just wanted to say, after a week + of enjoyment, I still love it. I'm confused as to why people say it doesn't flow well, I think it flows nicely.

Took my 5 year old daughter to the pool on Sunday to see if it held up in that atmosphere. Most of the folks at the pool (clearly not DMB fans) thanked me and asked me who it was. They enjoyed it very much.

Awesome that fans had the opportunity to ask Mark about DMB. Hopefully he didn't catch the red glare of anyone else involved.
