New Ticketmaster dynamic pricing

Thought you guys would enjoy this since there has been so much hand wringing about Platinum tickets in the past. Now Ticketmaster changes face value on tickets real time without listing them as platinum. Bought miranda lambert pit tickets for my wife this morning for $120 face value logged back in to try to two more and the same face value tickets were $145. I was reading up on it a bit more and apparently they can change prices real time now based on supply and demand. Crazy glad I got the majority of my concert years in when things were reasonable.

    Re: New Ticketmaster dynamic pricing

Had this happen for John Mayer tickets last fall when they went on sale. It should be criminal. They hike up the prices for the on-sale date which creates panic, and people start paying way over face value for tickets. Those who aren't willing to pay the high prices leave the "waiting room" and then the prices naturally start to come down because the "demand" isn't as high.

Ticketbastard continues to be one of the worst companies in terms of serving it's customer base.

Greedy bastards are going to make their money. They're treating tickets like market price seafood now.

Artists and/or their management need to argue against this.

Any artist that doesn't call this out and insist TM not apply this to their ticket sales is telling you the only thing that's important to them.

And Eddie Vedder's solo shows in FEB have TM Platinum tickets; I'd expect future PJ shows to have them as well

We are now in a culture of the secondary market....
~ Shoe Releases (Flight Club, Stock X)
    ~ NFT's (Open Seas)
    ~ Concert Posters
    ~ PS5's & XBbox's
~ Cereal Boxes (Yep... Travis Scott, KAWS)

Everything goes for damn near double or more on the secondary market... and it appears this is the current trend going forward for the next 5-10 years.

We showed our collective asses during the pandemic and gave gougers the perfect opportunity to normalize what TM has been doing for too long.

Avoiding Ticketmaster is the main reason I remain a faithful Warehouse member despite its mediocre seat offerings. Remind me again why having just one major seller of concert tickets is not a monopoly?

This has been going on for years made a video about this on Dead and Co in late 2019:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTKz...=Concertvids34

When you wait it out, use the warehouse when possible and call TM's bluff most times it works out. Outside of a SPAC or Alpine or MSG most times you can find DMB tickets for face or slightly over if not under face should the warehouse gods let you down.

I wonder if the new tax laws will tamp down the flippers at all. eBay, PayPal, Venmo, Stubhub, etc. all have to report to the IRS, via 1099-K any user that has annual sales greater than $600.

Excellent point about how buyers in the pandemic bored and still having vacation or extra fun money they couldn't spend outside using it to pay double or triple for items online.

The crazy thing is all of these things you mentioned are much worse than what is going on in the ticket industry. Because these concerts are time sensitive (same with sports tickets) I play the system wait it out or strike a few days before if a ticket pops up and pay face or less.

Meanwhile I still don't have a PS5 (haven't been really aggressive on signing up on alerts or PS direct though), Many posters I want are still pretty high priced years after the shows and there is a black history doll I wanted to get for my girlfriend who collects that is going for 3 times face.

What we have with concert tickets is a blessing wait it out call TM's bluff and you will win most times unless you're going to BTS or some uber popular pop act.

will we know what face value would be? Want to go to Mansfield this year and will buy right on release but will that be the most expensive time to buy? Will they say what the Face value is in addition to the dynamic pricing?

Not sure but we'll know what face is when the warehouse presale is announced.

    Welcome to 2018 at least.

The dynamic price is the face price so to speak.
They have a starting face and then it changes based on demand.

If you can hold out, you typically can get real cheap prices on great tix

When you're looking for tickets through Ticketmaster you have to make sure you unselect all of the BS ticket types like platinum and verified resale. Only leave 'standard ticket' and you should, I believe, be seeing only face value seats. Which is complete bullshit because it's probably 10% of what's actually left.

Except those are the tickets OP is talking about. Standard tickets now have dynamic pricing for most artists. It's absurd.

Didn't one of the leaked links show $135 as top-tier face? So $135 for Pit and Lowers?

We will know the face value of tickets once the tour is announced (most likely 1/18/22) and warehouse members like me will be able to choose requests with pricing numbers posted.

Dynamic pricing is bullshit, it's turning concerts into auctions where the richest fans are the only ones who can get the best seats int the house. Streaming services have murdered the record industry, so artists are going to start attempting to make as much money as they possibly can through touring.

This is partially true. Artists got boned prior to streaming and are being boned post-streaming. Record companies just don't have the same margins as they did in the late 90s/early 00s when they were charging $25 for a new CD that cost them pennies to make.

Yep these were just standard face value tickets. The problem is that they adjust real time now based on demand. This is a lot different then setting a price then lowering it based on demand leading up to the show. Like you guys said I have had the best luck waiting until closer to shows but even the ticket drops were fewer this year.

Exhibiting patience is the hardest thing with the way tickets are now. It used to be that tickets would get more expensive the closer a show got. Now it's the opposite, I think covid had a lot to do with that as well.

I'm gonna wait until the week of to buy tickets for Tool in Colorado Springs. Hoping to score some for below face on stubhub.

Yes, now it is impossible to even know the starting price until they actually go on sale. It is very frustrating.

Yeah, I paid above face for MSG uppers the day they went on sale last year, and had them posted for well below face value days before and on the day of the show (found a great deal on floors) only to have them not sell. I'm definitely waiting it out from now on. Somuchtoplay's post about the new 1099 reporting law will very interesting to see if it has any impact on cutting down on resellers.

    Re: New Ticketmaster dynamic pricing

I mean perhaps I'm being naive but it wouldn't it be easy enough to just say "face value is what DMB [not ticketmaster] says it is?"

they aren't going to have dynamic pricing on warehouse tickets (not because they aren't greedy enough to do it but because they aren't going to commit the kind of resources it would take to implement)

I'm definitely waiting it out from now on. Somuchtoplay's post about the new 1099 reporting law will very interesting to see if it has any impact on cutting down on resellers.
MSG , SPAC, and Maybe a decent Alpine/Deer Creek lower are really the only nearly impossible tickets to secure with MSG being the most expensive out of them all (given rarity)

For the 1st time ever I got face for MSG for N2 floors via warehouse. But for MSG I wouldve easily paid slightly more via dynamic pricing for MSG N2 because it's MSG N2.

Outside of a MSG or SPAC everything else literally pays off by waiting it out or getting lucky on the warehouse.

The #1 issue in the DMB world is securing a poster like MSG N2 (I was in line an hour and a half early very close to the door and still missed out).

But tickets always appear it's just a matter of a fans personal opinion on if they are ok with a last min upper or mid pavilion if all else fails.
