I refuse to watch the MLS anymore. I was an avid Metro Stars/Red Bull fan. However, a few things drove me away. The Red Bull’s firing Mike Petke, the playoff format and the over expansion too quickly became breaking points to me.
Once the MLS allowed NYCFC to join I knew there was no reason to continue to watch. The fandom is not there to support two NYC teams and all new fans were always going to go to the one actually located in NYC. I also felt players would naturally want to flow to that team over the Red Bulls as well.
To me it just felt like there was nothing legitimate about the league anymore. The Red Bulls as far as I know (I’m out of the loop) still have not one a title and NYCFC has. So dumb.
I did enjoy going to an Atlanta United game or two when I was there, but to be honest, I didn’t follow at all. With the Premier League and Bundesliga so easily watchable here and me no longer living near an MLS team, it is just not worth my time to even give it a slight amount of attention.
