The 5 year survival rate is 3% for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer - unfortunately it's not a question of 'Can he survive', it's 'How much longer can he handle it?'

Hopefully, especially for you younger folks, tests will be available soon that can detect markers in the blood and lead to early stage diagnosis and treatmen for this and other hard to detect cancers.

Many are in advanced studies now and have as high as a 96% detection rate.

I wish this wasn't the case, but, yeah, pancreatic cancer is basically a death sentence.

But, you would he has the resources to put up a good fight with as long as he's been making that Jeopardy! cash.

Mentions Paul Allen and David Bowie.

It’s disheartening when you see such people of means that become helpless to this disease.

Yeah I’m sure the survival rate is higher when you can afford higher quality care. There are stories of people beating Stage 4 pancreatic cancer so I’m hoping for the best.

Just to clarify, you mean Canadian National treasure right?

He’s 78 so whatever happens, while still too young he’s lived to a decent age and by all accounts had a good life.

Couldn’t agree more with this. Taking over for Alex are some very big shoes to fill - hard to think of a personality in the media today that could keep Jeopardy at the same level of class it’s always had in all its decades of existence.

I love that in an era filled with game shows that pander to the lowest common denominator, Jeopardy never went along with that trend. Greatest game show ever by a long shot, if you ask me.

I'd absolutely love to see a Jeopardy! Champion get a chance. I think either Ken Jennings or that Austin guy would be phenomenal. I don't think any current "celebrities" should even be considered.

Ken Jennings and Austin would both be great choices.

I saw the Ken Jennings suggestion on reddit too, but it took me a minute to figure who they were referring to because the poster only said Ken J. I thought they were talking about Ken Jeong at first.

You're thinking of Austin Rogers. Both he and Ken were just back on as Team Captains for Jeopardy All Stars. A local woman had also returned to Jeopardy All Stars too. Her name is Larissa Kelly. She was on the morning news talking about Jeopardy. At that point Alex hadn't made the announcement. They talked to her after the announcement and she said Alex seemed normal during the taping of JAS which took place in January.
