It's a little unclear what specific hate they are protesting against. Just hate in general?

First of all, there's no science behind this 1% everyone's using so don't act like that's some gospel truth.

But anyway, to the question at hand, it's the entire sphere of influence that now surrounds the WH. Trump at best will just not do a damn thing while in office, at worst will attempt to create this isolationists wet dream, listen to his gay-hating VP (among others that will be in his cabinet), his white nationalist advisor, etc. He's had unadulterated support from the worst of the worst in this country, regardless of how many normal, every day, non-asshole people voted for him.

Not to mention he's just a buffoon. "I know more about ISIS than the generals." "I know how to beat them, but Im not telling you yet." *Has twitter taken away*

This is the guy people want running the country? He's basically an 8 year old.

Seems clear to me. I think stuff that went on in portland the other day and, in general, was likely caused and committed by people who didn't even vote and are even registered. They likely weren't great members of society to begin with and the protests gave them their excuses to be unruly.

I actually thought the number would be higher. I found the answer. 69 of the 112 arrested in Portland either didn't turn in a ballot or are not registered to vote.

Because I keep seeing people (not just here) point out that he isn't detailing his plans for ISIS and I don't see that as a bad thing at all, obviously he comes off as an idiot when he says he knows more about ISIS than the generals. It wouldn't be a big deal if he said something normal the first time, like "I'll have to discuss with the generals/advisors" or whatever. But he said that maybe once or twice, and the other 30 times just said he's the smartest guy and world and knows exactly what to do. He lies the way I lied when I was in elementary school. Your post is the sort of responding to hate with hate that I see on the streets here in Portland everyday since the election. I just don't think it's productive to marginalize the opposition in this way. IMO nothing productive will happen until after all the hateful protesting ends and we can get back to business.

And as liberal as I am, I can't completely get behind that 'go high' argument fellow lefties are espousing. THere's certainly power in it, and I'm certainly not advocating violent protests, but peace love and understanding will only go so with this clown in office.

How will me being nice change Pence's batshit insane and dangerous views on gays? How will me being nice change the views of a very large group of shitty people whose views a Trump presidency has now legitimized as not only a major political party, but as the guy running the show. Also, extremely ironic use of the word 'marginalize' here...
