Re: What irritates you?

Shoe shopping has been irritating me lately. Most shoe stores nowadays are a self serve type of thing. Even some true shoe stores have little to no help. An attendant asks what you want, they go to the back and grab the shoe. Fuck that. It sucks my employer wants me in a dark colored or black shoe. Ever since I started to buy good shoes in 2010, it's been a challenge to get what I want. In 2010 I bought a pair of Brooks Beast 10. Boss said they weren't dark enough, so I had to get another pair of shoes. Thankfully Brooks had a black shoe called the Addiction. Bought them online, wore them out over time and bought a second pair. Had to order the second pair through a store and wait for shipment. After wearing them for some time, I wasn't overly satisfied with them. So decided to buy a pair of New Balance. After searching online for hours, found one store in the whole SF Bay Area that had what I wanted. Drove 40+ miles for a pair of shoes. After wearing them for a year and a half it's time for a new pair. I didn't want another pair of New Balance and wanted to avoid the Addiction line from Brooks. I wanted a pair of Brooks though. After searching online for over an hour I found what I wanted, but Brooks didn't make the shoe in my width. The search continued. After another hour or two, I discovered another shoe, but no shoe stores had them in stock, in the color I needed. Thankfully, the shoe came in two colors. I was able to go to a good shoe store, have my feet properly fitted and tried on a pair of shoes. All seemed good. I ordered a pair of the shoes in the color i needed and am waiting for them to come in. When they do come in, I'll go try them on and hopefully purchase them. Why does shoe shopping have to be so hard? I'm done with cheap shoes and higher end shoes are so hard to shop for. Fuck shoes

What type of shoes do you need? I do my formal shoe shopping at Johnston & Murphy and love their selection. A little pricey but if you're willing to invest in a nice pair of shoes then it's well worth it. How dark does your employer want your shoes to be? Are we talking straight black? I have a pair of nice black Rockport oxfords that weren't too expensive but have been comfortable and durable as hell.

You don't know true shoe shopping pain until you're a size 14, maybe 15, preferrably wide

Since I've become an Amazon shopper for most things in life, I've found shoes to be great on there too. That or Zappos, but they're owned by Amazon. You might find different selections/availability on one or the other. But free shipping both ways, free returns makes it a no-brainer.

I bought some Johnston & Murphy's and they look great but I have shit feet and they hurt after a full day in them. I keep them for going out and stuff. But for work, I've been wearing a $40 pair of Rockports I got off Amazon.

Sounds like you are just being a little bitch because if they are as bad as you say, they'd obviously be locked up by now.
First Bolded: Until yesterday, no. I had not actually witnessed any laws being broken. However, over the past 2 days, the cops have been here 5 times. That's not at all an exaggeration. One of the times I called. As this girl was trying to get in a cab with their infant son and leave, he jumped into the cab, punched her in the face, slammed her head against the cab window, took the baby and ran inside.

Second Bolded: You clearly don't understand how laws in Chicago/IL work. They see the cops coming and run into the apartment. Cops can't go in. Game over. The girl won't press charges, so despite me witnessing the assault, unless she presses charges, there is nothing the cops can do. So yesterday, after that attack, he wasn't even arrested.

It's the craziest shit I've ever lived through and I've lived in Chicago for over 8 years. They've been kicked out of the building but refuse to actually leave, so the county sheriff has to come out and literally physically remove them. This is a prime example of how things like welfare and lax eviction laws are totally backwards. They encourage this type of behavior.

They don't really care what type of shoes as long as their black, or very dark in color. The shoes I'm going to buy are 90% black with some red and white in them. They're a $150 pair of shoes, not including tax. My current New Balances I paid $160, before tax. I don't mind paying over a $100 for comfy shoes that will last a couple of years.

Brooks also has the same policy. If the shoes doesn't fit, you can return it for free. I ended up going to Fleet Feet and tried on a similar pair of shoes. They ordered my shoes for me and if I don't like them when they arrive, I'm not obligated to buy them. I'm 99% sure they'll be o.k. Just have to wait 7 to 10 days for them to get in.

    Here's my current one:

The damn servers that continually take your drinks away at weddings. You set your drink down and go to the dance floor, and then when you come back it's gone.

Fuck Off seriously. Stop cleaning the tables every 10 minutes. Take empty glasses, not nearly full drinks.

we had this problem at a work happy hour the other day. place wasn't even crowded, but the busboy was leaving no room for error. coworker went to the bathroom and left his drink that was probably 60% full, he took it. he went up and told the bartender and was given another one

he didn't believe us that it was the busboy, I guess he thought someone else took it. so we tested it by having someone leave alone a maybe 90% full drink. busboy almost took that too but we stopped him

I can't stand when servers take my glass to refill it when there is still soda in the glass. Now I am without anything to drink for the next 2 minutes while you go refill it. Not a big deal if I don't have food yet, but if I'm eating it really irritates me. Bring me the replacement before you remove the mostly empty one. I don't even care about the sanitary ramifications of it.

Another restaurant/drink related irritant is filling waters up way too quickly. My family and I ate at an upscale Chinese place last night, and I swear to you every single time I took the tiniest sip of water, the bus-girl would be right over my shoulder refilling my glass. It's like they had a mandate in place that there couldn't be any customer without a full glass of water

    Re: What irritates you?

Having shingles would be irritating enough, but apparently I can't get any treatment for it, so that's the part I'm particularly irritated with.

So, last Friday I noticed what I thought was a rash on my back.
I ignored it thinking it would go away, but it started to hurt today, so I went down to employee health (I work in a hospital). The EE health nurse thought it was shingles, so he had the infection prevention nurses look at it and confirmed it was shingles.

I called my ob/gyn to confirm if there was any medication I could take since I'm pregnant. They said valtrex was safe and to call my PCP.
So, I called my PCP and explained where I was seen / diagnosed and that I had talked to my ob/gyn and they said valtrex was safe.
They just called me back and said they are not comfortable prescribing it to a pregnant person, even if they diagnosed it.
So, I called my ob/gyn back. They won't give me a prescription b/c they didn't diagnose it (mind you, the ob/gyn is at my hospital, so we all know each other and they know ee health and the nurses I saw) and they won't see me to diagnose it.

Bottom line: neither dr. will give me a prescription so I'm stuck unless I go to like the ER. I sent a message to the ee health nurse, so I'm hoping he'll just go to the infection prevention dr. and get me the prescription.

I think after a while, you have to feel bad for him, as he went thru all that work and is sitting there in Vegas by himself.

I think that's what he was counting on. "Come on guys, you can't just leave me out now that im here, I spent all this money to be with you guys!"

We have so many analysts that have no idea how to use Excel. I don't understand how you can be an analyst and not know how to use it. Also, if you don't know how to nest formulas and utilize pivot tables, you don't really know hot to use Excel. I'm still trying to get my head around array formulas. It's like I kind of get it but don't totally get it.

I wanted rip my hair out yesterday... I watched, excruciatingly, as someone copied and pasted from one workbook to another. Ever heard of V-fucking-LOOKUP??? Seriously, you can't work with excel for 10+ years and never at least stumble upon VLOOKUP.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy. I'd say that the number one function used at my work by most people is a vlookup.

    Not Excel.
Not even sure what MATLAB is. Sometimes you just have to work with the tools at hand.

Business that can't keep appointments. Yesterday I was scheduled to get my windows tinted at 3. At 2pm I got a text saying they couldn't do it until 5:45pm. Today, I'm getting my windows done by that business's competition.

Companies should just give a mandatory excel training workshop. I don't use it for anything overly complicated, but I looked up some videos probably 5 years ago and learned so much cool shit you can do it was mind-blowing. So I can imagine feeling your frustration I think, basing it on my pre-excel and post-excel knowledge haha.

how have they not been fired? I'm imagining a data analyst, really of any sort, not being able to use excel with comfort would probably be churning out some pretty shoddy work, and if nothing else would be doing it very slowly

or are they just really good at managing expectations?

Absolutely. And even when you think you're an 'expert' with excel, there's still a ton more shit you can learn.

Having used matlab extensively at school (and illegally at home), it's likely his workplace doesn't want to pony up the cash for a corporate matlab license.
