Having shingles would be irritating enough, but apparently I can't get any treatment for it, so that's the part I'm particularly irritated with.
So, last Friday I noticed what I thought was a rash on my back.
I ignored it thinking it would go away, but it started to hurt today, so I went down to employee health (I work in a hospital). The EE health nurse thought it was shingles, so he had the infection prevention nurses look at it and confirmed it was shingles.
I called my ob/gyn to confirm if there was any medication I could take since I'm pregnant. They said valtrex was safe and to call my PCP.
So, I called my PCP and explained where I was seen / diagnosed and that I had talked to my ob/gyn and they said valtrex was safe.
They just called me back and said they are not comfortable prescribing it to a pregnant person, even if they diagnosed it.
So, I called my ob/gyn back. They won't give me a prescription b/c they didn't diagnose it (mind you, the ob/gyn is at my hospital, so we all know each other and they know ee health and the nurses I saw) and they won't see me to diagnose it.
Bottom line: neither dr. will give me a prescription so I'm stuck unless I go to like the ER. I sent a message to the ee health nurse, so I'm hoping he'll just go to the infection prevention dr. and get me the prescription.
