Re: What was the last movie you watched?

so i just saw paranormal activity. i dont get why people say its so scary. it was basicly an hour and a half ghost hunters episode, but an awsome ending, and a sick/twisted alternate ending

I liked it a lot. I've only listened through once and I was working on homework with it on in the background, so I haven't really had a chance to give it a solid listen. Probably will tomorrow afternoon/night.

    Good stuff

Tonight I said fuck Che and watched Shrink instead. I figured watching Spacey was better then reading subtitles. And it was, good movie.

    Sophie's Choice

This was an absolutely excellent film on just about every level. I would really love to go much more in-depth with my review, but I am still trying to digest it all. All I can say for now is that the story was completely compelling and the performances were absolutely outstanding. Streep is of course who everyone talks about when this film is brought up (and it should go without saying, she is AMAZING in this), but Kevin Kline had so much to offer as well in his first starring role. He brought so much dimension, empathy and likability to a character that could have very easily been characterized as a completely despicable human being. In many respects, he completely owns the screen in a great deal of his scenes. It's also an absolute masterwork of a screenplay. This movie is more or less a straight-up drama for the majority of its duration, but throughout it has so many twists and turns that are pulled off so convincingly and unpredictably, that the vast majority of run-of-the-mill thrillers would be ashamed by their own countless contrivances after being compared to this film. Such a powerful film - honestly can't remember what was the last movie I saw in which The Holocaust played a central role that was as good as this. I have a feeling this will have a lot of staying power for me. 10/10

I Never Sang for my Father (1970) 4/5

One of Gene Hackman's greatest roles. He should have won his Oscar nomination.

    A terrifically sad film.

Hackman was up for supporting, Melvyn Douglas got the actor nod. I believe Douglas won for Being There 10 yrs later

No way. The reason actors perform as the tough, foul mouthed, questionable judgement cop is because of Hackman's Popeye Doyle.

I give that nod to Eastwood for Dirty Harry, which came out in the same year (1971 - though 2 months after TFC). Might be negligible though.

Hackman is Top 10 for me.

    Pretty much this.

His best role for me though is The Conversation, with Tenenbaums close behind.

Just saw Right At Your Door for the second time. 5/5 probably one of the more unsettling movies I've ever watched--deals with a dirty bomb attack on LA. Suprisingly, the lead actor (the long-haired stoner from Dazed and Confused) did a pretty good job. A hell of a twist ending.
Also recently saw Let The Right One In for the second time. 5/5. Best vampire movie ever; subtle, beautifully shot, and just overall creepy (not scary though)

Zombieland. It wasn't an amazing piece of film or anything, but it was exactly what I wanted it to be. I laughed a lot when they would exemplify the rules, and it wasn't too dramatic--my main complaint about the wonderful Shaun of the Dead.

    Fucking epic.

Christopher Nolan has been elected as chief architect for the new Superman series by WB/DC Comics. No idea if he'd be a producer, director or anything yet. He probably will just mentor and help the folk who do start to helm Superman 3.0, which is a very great idea by Warner Bros. They know he is their meal ticket and that they have fucked up royally on Superman since 1980. Wow, this is amazing... might mean that WB may have negotiated a way for Nolan to let his Batman universe coincide with this new Superman universe.

    Nolan for the win...

Yes, a true to the comics series that is bad ass and worth watching. The only reason the original was good was 100% Christopher Reeve's doing. Superman Returns was an abortion of a film.

Maybe it's just time to let him rest for a few more years. Let us get over Smallville first.
