Ah, I didn't see this post but I posted about it in the Episode IX thread.

This was exactly my train of thought. Maybe I'll wait until I have grandkids to take.

    Just saw this tweet:

    https://twitter.com/pablohidalgo/sta...39474369978369

Apparently people hated TLJ so much that it did better ticket sales relative to the first installment than the other two trilogy middle chapters.

If IX does well it will be because JJ saved the franchise after Rian nearly killed it. If it does not do well, it will be because Rian ruined SW for all of the man-babies.

It would be near impossible to get an accurate number, but I wonder what the actual percentage of people that hated TLJ was.

    Yep, exactly.

I don't think the fan base is evenly split, but I'm not sure what the split is....maybe 20/80?

I think way more people liked it than people who hated it. I'm basing that purely on media sales rather than internet commentary. I'm in the camp that loved it so maybe I'm biased.

    Re: *Star Wars Conversation*

One "measure" may be physical disc sales.

Here are the combined DVD/Bluray sales for the respective movies since being bought by Disney:

The Force Awakens - 7,434,520 units in 2016
    Rogue One - 3,985,851 units in 2016
The Last Jedi - 4,056,507 units in 2018
    Solo - 2,185,422 units in 2018

This obviously doesn't account for digital sales. But as we see The Last Jedi underperformed compared to The Force Awakens but that was going to be a given. What's interesting is how close Rogue One is to The Last Jedi's sales. And the Solo obviously suffered the most (that movie I saw the most comments online saying they would wait to watch it on Netflix)

If I do some totally baseless math and say that The Force Awakens DVD/Bluray sales represents 100% of the Star Wars fan base I can that divide the Last Jedi sales by Force Awakens sales and see that TLJ sold only 54% of the total TFA sales.*

And then I can throw out there that 46% of the Star Wars fans who bought TFA didn't buy TLJ and just say that's the percentage of the fan base that hates the movie.

*By the same token TLJ's domestic box office was 66% of TFA's. Also every middle Star Wars film has sold less then the first movie in the trilogy.

The prequel music is probably up there with the original trilogy. Across the Stars

Empire. Hands down. It gave us The Imperial March, Yoda’s Theme and I think Leia’s Theme as well. Jedi had a decent soundtrack but it was mostly themes established in Empire and ANH. Bonus points for the music when Luke and Vader are dueling at the end... that and the music of Luke’s theme as he’s staring at the twin suns on tattooine... chills every time!

ESB is the correct answer, but the prequels have GREAT music. From the sequels, I also really like Rey's theme.

Man, SW fans are the worst. I'm no longer calling myself a SW fan because I don't want to be associated with these asshats.

This guy is trying to tell Frank Oz that Yoda was "out of character" in TLJ.

SW fans are so entitled. They can't be pleased. Nothing is good enough. It's downright pathetic.

I say that as a SW fan. It's ridiculous what fandom has turned into.

For realz… just have a look at DMBc.

Also, social media and the internet really as a whole has made this a lot worse. All it takes is 1 comment to spread like wildfire, millions of people see it and then suddenly the entire community is condemned.

Yeah, this is definitely the key point. I can't imagine what the reaction to the prequels would have been if the back then the internet was in the state it's in now.

Edit: Hell, I've heard stories about ESB being divisive at the time, except the only people you could bitch to about was your circle of friends.

Damn this post took me back to sitting in the music lab at college because they had the fastest computers that did video and waiting like 5-10 minutes for the trailer for Episode I to load ahhh such naïveté. Had I know that TLJ was gonna suck so bad I would have just burned all my vhs tapes right then and ended my fandom

Star Wars will be taking a break after Episode IX

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ix-disney-says

Disney+ will have all the Star Wars movies at launch (Nov 12) except Solo and The Last Jedi. Those will come over when the contract with Netflix expires.

I'm cool with that. There's plenty of stuff to look forward to in the meantime (The Manadalorian, Cassian Andor series etc..). I wonder if they will eventually release movies straight to the streaming service???? Just don't cancel the RJ trilogy, and I will be happy.
