Tour De France

I really don't care that much and I'm not a cycling guru or anything...just curious, given another champion has apparently doped up.

I was very upset to google "toud" and find out it was not an actual french word. Too bad, it could have been good.

Either one of the options works for me. I didn't even know people legitimately care about cycling.

it's a shame to see this. Contador is a great cyclist, and also a former Astana team member with Lance Armstrong. This is definitely going to start bringing more questioning to Lance...Between Landis in 06 and now this, it's a shame to see this happen to such a great sport. Contador is probably the most popular cyclist in the world at the moment too. Andy will get the tour win, and he definitely deserved it.

edit: just saw he's blaming it on something he ate see how this goes

Anymore, I am no longer shocked when any athlete tests positive or past evidence surfaces that he/she doped. I feel it's almost naive to believe that a top-level athlete is clean. I'm probably a little pessimistic. But, I think my pessimism is warranted.

Seriously, just let everyone dope. You can't regualte it and no one cares THAT much.

easily, he was the most well conditioned athlete, and was tested over and over again during his 7 consecutive tour wins. I don't care if lance was shooting up while going up alpe d'huez, he was still the best athlete in the field....7 consecutive tour victories is a record that will never be broken.

The best clean athlete in the field would not beat an above average athlete on PED's...IMO. Not even plausible.

Looks like this never took off four years ago. Let's try again.

Anyone watching this year's Tour? I usually watch every year. Can't believe both Froome and Contador abandoned. That certainly narrowed down the number of legit contenders. There have been a lot of really wet days this year. Scary stuff.

I watch it every year, and every day during the Tour. This Tour has been crazy from day 1. From the amount of crashes, to the cobbles, to the rain, this has been very unpredictable as any I have seen. It is a shame to see the top 2 guys go out, but it also opens the door for someone else to step up. Problem is that Nibali had already put in so much time on everyone else not named Froome or Contador that it will take either a mammoth performance from someone or Nibali cracking on a big climb to make this even close.

But I will still watch each day to see what happens. Good sports drama for sure.

Yeah, there have been TONS of crashes. I would not want to be in the midst of a sprint finish. Seems like such a massive cluster fuck.

I agree, though. It's hard to see anyone catching Nibali, but I could see Valverde and Pinot making up a bit of time on Friday and Saturday in the mountains.

This is an incredibly inaccurate statement. A ton of people care about the Tour.

I don't really have much allegiance to any rider right now, seeing that no US rider has a snowballs chance in hell, but I find myself pulling for Richie Port. The guy was thrust into the GC roll when Froome went out and he has all the tools to make it happen, just not sure how good a TT he is. Valverde has been REALLY quiet so far this tour, so curious to see what he has up his sleeve. Bet Quintano is bummed to be on the side lines this year after winning the Giro, he would have been all over this Tour.

It was amazing to watch Quintana in the mountain stages last year. He was an absolute monster.

He is the future for Movistar. After last year when Valverde couldn't hack it in the Tour, and Quintana went toe to toe with Froome, they probably to him 2014 is your last chance. Have to think that Movistar will launch attacks over the weekend in the Alps. Valverde has to knock out at least a minute this weekend to have any chance.

I always watch the Tour. Don't really follow cycling outside of this event though so I was surprised to not see Quintana. He'd have a real chance of winning this tour with abandonments of Froome and Contador.

I'm rooting hard for Tejay Van Garderen. He had a terrific stage 2 days ago in the mountains when the first huge gaps showed up in the general classification.

Movistar announced early in the season the Quintana would race the Giro and not the Tour. After he won the Giro there was some speculation that he may end up in the Tour and go for the double, but that was put to rest very quick. The Tour was left for Valverde and he needs to step it up if he wants to get a chance for the win.

What Talansky did was nothing short of amazing. After his hard crash in the sprint, he tweaked his back and that is what flared up yesterday. Really curious to see how he does today. Regardless he has shown the type of rider, and teammate, he is. Top notch, class guy.

Not surprising, but Talansky had to abandon today. Hope to see him back and ready for the Vuelta in September.

First stage in the Alps today. Should be a little shaking of the tree to see who will be contending for podium and the yellow jersey. Nibali has lost his top helper in the mountains for this stage as he crashed on the first dissent. Time for BMC, Sky and Movistar to show their teeth.
