DDTW album version: The mini-jam after song ends

Has this ever been played live? I just listened to the album (haven't in a while) and forgot how awesome this little piece is.

You’re talking about the “commercial(s)” in between song(s) on BTCS? I think they’re only found on BTCS.

The bits after the songs are one of countless reasons why I think this is the best album ever made.

It would be awesome if they ever played them live.

The only ones they’ve ever played live are the ASTB Jam (after pig) and Last Stop reprise (after Spoon). And obviously PNP

I always thought it'd be sweet if Dave would hit those Deed is Done chords in his funky strumming part during ASTB

It is my favorite "commercial" on BTCS. Absolutely beautiful. Wish they would play it after DDTW.

Can someone define ‘commercial’ in the context of musical albums? I’m not understanding how the word fits these jams.

It doesn't really fit. Not sure when the "commercial" caught on, but "interlude" is more appropriate.

Also the post-Dreaming Tree Interlude has shades of Doobie Thing, not that it's news or insight. Just hadn't been said in this thread yet.

Dave himself called them commercials didn't he? We didn't make up the word commercials on our own, it came from someone like Dave or Lillywhite.

I thought it came out during the Lillywhite interview, that’s what they referred to them as.

It would be awesome and I'm surprised it never caught on from the start.

Never claimed that someone made up the word, I was just referring to that I don't recall them being called that back in the day.

I don't remember them saying as such, but Dave also chooses his words in a different manner than most people.

"With the band still hungry, Matthews tapping into some of his best work ever and Lillywhite free to guide course, BTCS turned into one of the boldest, most robust and creative albums of the 1990s. We’re talking about a record that has 25-second mini songs (album “commercials,” as Matthews pitched to Lillywhite) filled with potential to be their own tunes but instead work as a connecting thread from one song to the next."

    Excerpt for Relix

    Podcast

I had a text file of the whole transcript, think it made the rounds here a bit ago.

I think when Dave refers to them as commercials, it's in the matter of how a commercial breaks up a show/program. Not in the advertisement sense of the word, but in the intermission/break sense
