Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need their own thread

Someone posted what could have been with Come Tomorrow in the album discussion thread, and it got me thinking about what we could’ve gotten vs what we got.

Samurai Cop
Kill the King
Here On Out
Bismarck
Break Free
Idea of You
Virginia in the Rain
Again & Again
Sugar Will
Black & Blue Bird
Come On Come On
Do You Remember
Break For It
Death on the High Seas

Would be worth it just so that Can’t Stop, That Girl is You, and She wouldn’t be taking up space in sets.

Totally agree. And the only reasons why we didn't get that are because a) Dave hates his own music, or b) because they want to greedily hoard their "good" songs for some distant point in the future.

That album would have been a huge success and captured new and old fans.

Twas ever thus with this band.

Here's to 42 mins of new music in May.

Eh, If DMB was going to do a double album, I'd prefer they make it all old B-sides...no new stuff. I would hope it would include old stuff we've never heard live...like how Come on Come on was originally from Batson Session back in '06. There's probably tons of stuff like that. Combine that with the great stuff we know (SUAD, JTR, Bismarck, Loving Wings, etc)

    Satellite is so overlooked/under-appreciated.

The chorus is absolutely brilliant, and the bridge (?) "rest high above the clouds, no restrictions" is one of the prettiest and most triumphant pieces of music I've ever heard. Just cleanses the soul.

I agree, I think Satellite is one of Dave’s best written songs. Definitely underrated, but that’s not uncommon for songs that aren’t deep cuts. We definitely take the hits for granted.

It just occurred to me, it's probably a matter of time before DMB covers "We Got The Funk" and it'll probably be at the end of Jimi Thing.

Guess I've never noticed the "dance away" connection of LIOG RR (outro) & LLD. Is the "dance away" in any other songs?

I went back and listened to Dave and Carter's collaboration with Santana on Supernatural. Love of My Life is a great track. In fact, that whole album is stellar. Wow.

Noticed Rashawn on the Grammys. Heard his trumpet before I saw him. I think I either don’t like the trumpet as an instrument or just don’t like the way he plays it

when has a song being on/not being on an album ever mattered to its status in sets? cant stop was played live for over a decade before it was released. not being on CT wouldnt have changed anything, except maybe it would have stayed the slow boring version that killed energy.

This would be a solid album, wow. Maybe just swap out DYR for Shotgun and I’d rank it just after the Big 3 & Busted Stuff.

Check out Louis Armstrong. He's a good indicator of if you like trumpet or not.

Wonder if the sock it to you line was a boyd jab. I’ve also wondered if covering two different songs called money and one called bitch the year butch left we’re jabs.

Sock it to you is a stretch but I believe the butch ones were intentional.

It's gross. It's a song a wedding band would play for 2 rich white people in their 60's getting remarried.

wow. I never would have thought this. Did Butch leave due to money? I thought it was Tim being added full time and wondering what his role would devolve too. Can't imagine he'd walk away from whatever they were paying him unless they offered Tim more or something.

I truly have no idea. Fan speculation. Too coincidental imo. There are 1,000’s of songs to choose and they went with 2 called money and one called bitch. Haha.

Only dmb song my dad liked.

Back in the day when Dave’s tinkering with songs improved them. After Her verses are so bad but the amazing chorus was always there. Was like two different people write the song. Then the added bridge and wow. What a creative amazing song.
