Re: ****Official Omaha 2022 Show****
Alright, a little more substantial thoughts after getting some sleep.
First, as you can see from my signature - I don’t go to shows all the time.
Second, as you can see from my post history - I don’t post on here a lot.
Third, I don’t follow setlists closely when I’m not going - I did check the few before this show to get an idea of what was in store, so I had some sort of idea.
This was a solid show. More entertaining for me than Nashville 2019, even with some repeats in the two sets.
I have more familiarity with songs from anything post-BS, which helped.
Madman’s Eyes is a rocker of a song, and on the level of newer rocking songs. The other new songs, OATB and SFTW? Meh. Didn’t pull me in.
I was chasing Crush and Jimi Thing, with my limited show count. So that was awesome.
And my wife, who isn’t a huge fan, was hoping for enough that she’d at least know well, so she was happy for Ants. I wasn’t unhappy about it. There’s a reason the “No hits - deep tracks only” joke in the Office is hilarious.
Overall, the band feels more comfortable as a group than in the Nashville show. I think Buddy’s settled in well. To me, Rashawn has especially settled in. Nashville had a lot of instances of overplaying, in my opinion. Not every trumpet solo needs to go into the stratosphere. But some can, if you do it right.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. The guy behind me, after SFTW, said “Come on man, anything but Ants!” But he was singing along happily with Ants.
As we were walking out, I heard a woman yell at her friend nearby. “What?!? No Crash?!? No Billies?!?”
I get it, I see the setlists are stagnant. I just thought it was enjoyable and I’m not gonna take the post-show mood down by being disappointed about what wasn’t played. DMB came to Omaha and I got to go to a show with very minimal planning. That’s a win.
