    Blackberry is going crazy.

I bought 90 shares of Blackberry this morning and 150 shares of Nokia when it was frozen about an hour ago. Fingers crossed.

My good friend has a friend who's wife works at Melvin Capital (idk if that means anything to anyone), he said they lost 2.75 Billion on gamestop today and Citadel backed them on their losses?

yes, Melvin is the hedge fund with the huge short position who was bailed out by the Mets owner lol. they may have to liquidate their entire fund just to cover the losses.

they will be filing for bankruptcy next week, according to rumors.

that was the 2.75 billion that Point72 and Citadel gifted them after the first day of the squeeze, all of it gone.

So, is something like the Robinhood app the easiest way to fuck around with individual stocks?

I have my 401k through my employer, money in a TD Ameritrade account that I'm essentially treating as a 401k account and some random Pepsico shares in Computershare. I plan on just leaving all that stuff alone for the most part.

You do you, but I'd just pop open a separate brokerage line at TD just so you have less accounts to log into. They can do anything Robinhood can.

I don't think they do *right now*, but they were recently purchased by Schwab which does allow fractional shares, so I would bet that will integrate at some point in the not too distant future.

Perhaps a different way of asking: Is Robinhood more user friendly for someone who doesn't really have a fucking clue what they're doing?

The only thing I do in TD Ameritrade is log in to check my balance occasionally and to pull tax docs. Outside of that it's just an intimidating mess to me.

I don't use Robinhood, so I'll let someone else chime in, but if you're primary is a good user interface it is probably a good call for you as that is their bread and butter.

robinhood is exceptionally easy to use and very friendly from an interface perspective. that is a positive, but it's also used as a critique that they "gamifying" investing.

if you already have an account at TD, i'd probably just stick there and open a separate account to use for play money. not worth the additional tax form and having to track an additional account on a separate website.

CNBC host implying that this GME short squeeze is bad because it's "artificially" inflated and some casual retail investors are going to get hurt, while speaking on the same channel where Jim Cramer gives daily stock tips to casual investors who could get hurt.

so in terms of day trading - when a purchase is made, is the price you're getting at the time the transaction is submitted? and then if you sell your shares, say the next day, do you know the price you're selling at? just seems like it all happens so fast. wasn't sure if there was a delay in the execution of the buys/sells.

I don't do any day trading, just passive index funds, so the process is all new to me.

Yes, depends on the type of trade and limit but if you buy or sell for market value it will happen almost instantaneously... just takes a couple days for the funds to settle

Yes you’re guessing what the market price is at the time you press the submit button. That’s why many do a stop limit order which automatically buys or sells once it hits a specific price (and there’s variations of that aka stop loss order)
