Re: Fargo (New FX TV series)

Pulp fiction being an 'average' movie is either hilarious or infuriating

Fargo is definitely not a top 10 of all time movie. It's not even the Coen's best. But, it is also not an average movie by any means.

They have so few misfires. Fargo would make the top five — No Country, Big Lebowski, O Brother, Fargo and ... Raising AZ? True Grit? Barton Fink?

If you guys haven't seen blood simple, check it out. It was the coen's first film and while not as good as several others it does have their style, in it's early form

I haven't seen Blood Simple or Llewyn Davis. I think I've seen just about everything else they've done. I'd put Ladykillers at the bottom of the stack.

I'd agree with this but I'd definitely put Raising Arizona and Millers Crossing ahead of it as well. I'd never call Fargo a misfire, but top 10 of all time? I have it 6th just on the Coens top 10.

Only saw Inside Llewyn Davis once, really enjoyed it, don't know where it ranks after one viewing.

Raising Arizona is pretty much the only Nick Cage movie I like. He ruins movies for me usually but he's perfect as that character

As requested: My top 10. I casually thought of movies that I think are great and could watch all the time. All of them blow Fargo out of the water. First five are in no particular order.

    The Shining
    Forrest Gump
    The Lion King
    Shawshank Redemption
    Saving Private Ryan
    6. The Green Mile
    7. Training Day
    8. The Patriot
    9. Silence of the Lambs
    10. Tombstone

I think The Patriot is terrible, but otherwise, that's not really that bad of a list.

I will strongly disagree with the statement that any of those blow Fargo out of the water though.

    Also Moonstruck.

The thing with Cage is when the material is good and he turns it on, he can be great.

The problem is that isn't often. Given his resume, I bet he isn't the first choice for many of the movies he gets, but he takes them because the dude's gotta eat.

I also felt like he was a good Ghost Rider, given the material he had to work with. Still not a great movie, all told.
