Did anyone go on any of the excursions to the Mayan ruins or anything like that? Got the wife on board and shes a history teacher so she's excited about seeing it. It'll be our 15th wedding anniversary

I would only do this if you add days to the front or back end of the trip.

Most of us spend all day at the pool soaking in the poolside sets and dmb crowd.

(3rd year and have not done any excursions... did go in 5 days early year one and did some sight seeing)

    For the shows?

    This is subjective.

I heard some shitty stories from people up front. Not surprising with a GA show.

Great thing about GA is you can move somewhere else if you don’t like the crowd.

You can go in early and get close.
You can hang on the left side by the beach and dance in the waves.
You can hang in the back and enjoy the lights and sound.

You can even hang back by the bars and lay in a beach chair and listen/watch from a Jumbo screen in the new lounge. People there had servers bringing them drinks, nachos, churros etc. one girl said she got chilly and the server brought them hot towels to use and blankets (it was NOT cold... but to each their own. I was in a sundress every night, no sweater)

The fans at the pool are mostly super chill and fun to talk to. This show attracts a few crazies, but also a ton of more casual fans that just come for fun.

You would be shocked to hear how many people came for the first time or came down and haven’t been to a Dave show of any kind in years.

Totally agree with this. We generally had a great group of chill people around us. A few times I would get annoyed by a lady screaming at Dave or whatever but it was a minor thing.

We liked to go in around 6 or so and was always able to get a great spot. I had some great servers who would bring me Street corn and never let me go without a drink.

I met several people that had only seen Dave st the Mexico shows which really surprised me.

There was a nutty older lady Night 2 that yelled, not sang, yelled! the lyrics and tried to talk to every person who accidently looked at her. Otherwise the folks around us were great.

In general, I felt the crowds the first two nights had a lot of energy. Night 3 everybody seemed more subdued

    TL;DR version:

Definitely go if on an extended trip. Don’t go if on a shorter trip.

We added a day before and a day after (Wed-Wed). We did the Chichen Itza excursion today (Tuesday). Booked through the moon palace. Our guide was an actual archeologist that specializes in Mayan civilization. Literally blew our minds that the majority of things we learned about the Mayans were horribly inaccurate. Our experience was awesome.

However... do not do this excursion if you’re on a shorter trip. This was literally a 2.5 hour drive each direction. In our opinion it was well worth it, though. The heat in central Yucatán is INTENSE. Not the same as Cancun. Go prepared. Our guide was aware of this and did his best to find us shade. The sun chewed through our sunscreen in about 20 minutes in direct sunlight. Be warned!

First year we stayed an extra day and did the Rio Secreto tour on the day after the show. It was really freaking awesome and like being on another planet. However it required alot if physical exertion and we were both exhausted from 3 shows on the beach, drinking, sun, etc so at times it was a struggle. I got some really cool pics though.

Very cool and I wouldn't have expected the crowd to be casual fans at all, I guess people look at it as a beach vacation mostly and then shows. I was asking because there are plenty of comments about how lame the crowd was based off of individual YouTube videos shot from the back of the venue that pick up about 5 feet around them on crowd noise, kind of hard to judge off that.

Bring I’m With Her on the summer tour. DMB needs the violin back and the other two were great as well. Absolutely loved the banjo on Ants.

Did you hear the crowd reaction when they started soloing?

    More of that this summer.

    Less electric. More. Of. THAT.

Hey, it was great meeting you! And happy to share my share whatever day that was lol.

I wish we could have done a formal ants meetup... but when you get down there and the drinks start flowing it's so hard to keep up with any "concrete" plans.

Only way I see it working is if we bring an "ants" flag or something and hang from a cabana or chair during a pool party and try to meet up there for a drink.

I might have to tack on some days next year and actually do some of the local activities.

There were people there that have never been to a full band show.
    You would be surprised.

A lot of people go just because it's a beach vacation and a well known talented musician is icing on the cake.

On the other hand, that is why you hear so much talking during the "rarer" or more special moments. Of course that completely depends on where you are in the crowd.

During I'll back you up the couples next to us started chatting and legit exchanging email addresses. I told them to please be quiet and save the chatter for the next loud/high energy song and they were very respectful and apologized. They just didn't realize it wasn't a super common song and didn't know it. didn't care. I apologized to them after and explained its a fan favorite and not played that often.

During Angel with Amos Lee the girls next to me turned away from the stage and started taking selfies and chatting. Had to shush them too.

Honestly, these people were very, very casual fans and just didn't realize.

There are obviously plenty of hard core fans there as well.

All of the above is the same for any show.

If you are on the fence, you absolutely should do this next year. We kicked it around for a couple of years and finally did it. It was the best experience I could have asked for. I havent been to a full band DMB show in almost 4 years. There was ZERO things i disliked about the weekend, CID was incredible and I would consider going to almost any of their events regardless of who was performing.

As someone who isnt the most social at 37 years old, this weekend brought me out of my shell and by Sunday I was highfiving and hugging complete strangers.

Already saving for 2021. It was worth every penny.

What a trip! I'll echo everyone's sentiments about the weather, resort in general, service, food, pool scene, CID operations, venue set-up, performances, special moments, etc.

    All exceeded my expectations.

Going in I was thinking this would be a one time 'splurge' type event, but I had so much fun it will most likely turn into a staple. I was a good good time.

My fiancee (soon-to-be-wife) and I will definitely return next year!

Stayed at the Grand... it was a 15-20 second walk into the side entrance/security from our door (Building 87). Could not ask for a better time/location. We originally signed up for the excursions-- realized we had made a mistake. There is absolutely no reason to leave the property whatsoever (unless you are staying for an extended trip- arriving a few days before-- but having excursions on the days of the shows are not feasible). Had early entry from the WH, but didnt feel the need to use the wristbands/get in line. Got into the show each night during the last few songs of the openers' sets.

We missed the pool parties each day because they were a resort (shuttle) over and we didnt get out of the room until ~1 or later each day; but still attended the Nizuc on D3... definitely a party-vibe at that resort.

The servers and CID reps were MORE than friendly and gracious... couldnt ask for better service at the shows or the venues. Everyone we spoke to that attended felt like VIPs there. Absolutely the best time I've ever had at a DM/DMB show. Sets were stellar, vibe couldnt be replicated.

Also, not to miss is the silent disco... they should do something like this every night.

Highlights: DT, Rhyme & Reason, IBYU, Loving Wings, LIOG, Needle & the Damage Done, Ants w/ I'm With Her, Fool to Think, Say Goodbye, PFWYG, Little Thing.. all I can think of for now... have pics/vids will post later

Hi Bruce, feel free to use anything you'd like! I meant to reach out last night via email but .... reentry has been tough/work a bit crazy.

I'm trying to get Dreaming Tree to upload now.

This is a cool perspective of the crowd from the stage during Ants!

    Great recap.

Was bummed to miss the silent disco. I watched from my balcony but husband and friends were all passed out. I should have just gone down by myself.

Did you still end up doing the excursions?

As I said in previous posts totally not worth it on show days.

    Thanks.

I'm sure the Silent Disco watching was quite comical from your vantage point!

Yeah, I was fortunate enough (CID was generous enough) to cancel one of the two a few weeks back w/ refund.
No, we did not do the full-day Cozumel Stingray City excursion-- going to try to work some magic with CID and find out if we can apply a credit towards something next year.
