Alpine Resort is WAY better than camping

About the same price / no camping equipment needed
I've never stayed at the Alpine resort, but from everything I've heard the rates for concert weekends are way inflated. I've stayed at a private campground the last 2 years that's about a 20 min ride to the venue. $20/person/night. Plus they shuttled us to the lots each night for tailgate for another $20 or so. I enjoy camping regardless if it's for concerts or not, but to me, the camping just adds to the Alpine experience

I got a friend in Milwaukee so we did brewery tours in the area that weekend. Lakefront in 2015 and Sprecher in 2016.

Milwaukee is a really fun city. Wish I had enough self control to enjoy a day trip over Alpine weekend. Logistically it just would not work

No, I was out visiting my buddy for Dead & Co and we went out on his boat but just anchored up for a bit and went swimming. I almost have my wife convinced to move out that way though.

Assuming Alpine opens again I'll be out next summer for DMB, and possibly D&C, and we'll take their boat out again.

It really is. We found this really cool bar called the Safe House that has a spy theme, you have to have a password to get into it and it's a really neat looking place on the inside. There's a secret entrance (Photo) as well.

I clicked on this thread by accident (instead of the 2018 rumors), but will agree with this. I was in Milwaukee a few years ago for a conference and we went there one night. It was a neat little place. Loved watching the monitor (inside at the bar) to see people entering.

The first time we went we didn't know the password so we had to do the little chicken dance thing, which we thought was the end of it. Then we go in the bar, and on the monitor we saw us doing it broadcast throughout the bar, along with anyone else who didn't know the password.

I am going to be up in Wisconsin just near Alpine. Most likely going to take the longer, "scenic" route that goes right next to Alpine. I will be making a stop to see if I can walk around.

That'd be great. I'm not sure how close you'll be able to get, but even a quick glance should be able to tell if there's any sort of machinery or equipment around that would suggest work being done. Hopefully some signs of life are present... Let us know!

The Sprecher restaurant in Milwaukee (Bayshore Town Center) has some of the best meatloaf I've ever had in my life. Their brewery is also a lot of fun if you're into that kind of stuff.

Alpine Valley hopes to make some noise again in 2018

    http://www.lakegenevanews.net/news/a...fc50066af.html

Unable to land any major performers, Alpine Valley closed down for the first time ever, leaving East Troy without the excitement and tourism that come from having 25,000 music fans descend on your town.

But the crowds could be back next summer.

Alpine Valley officials are offering assurances that they are working hard to bring the concerts back in 2018. Fans, however, may see some unfamiliar faces taking the stage.

Jon Reens, vice president of Live Nation Entertainment, which owns the music venue, said the lineup for Alpine Valley’s revival in 2018 is likely to include some well-known performers and some newcomers.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a mix,” Reens said.

He was not ready to mention names or engage in any speculation. But Reens expressed confidence that concerts will return. His staff, he said, is already recruiting performers.

“We go to acts we feel will fit the venue,” he said. “We’re already putting offers out.”

color me skeptical that any artist's management is going to book them in a 40,000 ticket amphitheater if they are a "newcomer"

of course they could mean "newcomer to alpine," as in, a big act that hasn't played there before.

Yeah this could be like Guns N Roses type. Huge act that would sell out that has never played there

Keep in mind, from Alpines perspective, any act is better then no act.
A "newcomer" might be a true newcomer from a up and coming aspect although I agree you would be hard pressed to get them to book

    this is decidedly untrue

the overhead is not nearly as variable as the attendance. there is a number below which they don't make money

not to mention, the statement presupposes that "concert venue" is the highest and best use for the property and that's not at all clear at this point

It's no longer a 40,000 ticket venue. Current max capacity is 27,000.

did someone move part of the hill? if more than 27,000 people want to buy a ticket, they'll sell more than 27,000 tickets

I saw where they lowered their stated capacity because of reduced parking. 28,000 was what I read but 27 could be right. 27-28k is still massive for any non-stadium venue

The Green parking lot was turned into onsite camping. Reduced parking capacity = reduced max capacity.

Obviously the venue itself is the same size but they can't sell more than 27K for a show now.
