Just a heads up/ FYI, there is a bike race at Alpine the first weekend in July. The resort is holding 50 rooms for that event.

Now I doubt a Bike race would affect the concert dates, but if your planing on staying at the resort for the show you may want to book a room sooner rather than later. Just in case DMB plays Alpine the first weekend of July.

    Re: Alpine Valley Update

Wife and I just got back from a little weekend trip to Lake Geneva. On our way there we went to Alpine Valley to do a little hiking around, and we had never seen the resort or ever been there other than on a concert weekend. We hiked around the golf course a bit and got up the fence on the back side of the pavilion/stage. I was trying to see if I could notice any renovations, but it was hard to really tell or see much from that back side.
Something we did learn a little about though was some apparent flooding they had there this summer. We were walking on that hilly road that connects the farther out lot- the road that you would exit on if you had premier parking- and noticed there was a huge wash out in the dip. Part of the road itself was broken away, and the earth all around it was washed out and in rough shape. Then later we walked around the resort, and noticed that we could see in the lower level units pretty easily and that stuff inside was tore up. While we were peaking through the glass, a nice ski instructor guy came over and started chatting us up, and said that they had bad flooding in June, and that the units were all having to get re-carpeted and fixed.
It got me thinking about what would have happened if there had been concerts there this year, and the resort was booked out, and then all the bottom units got wrecked a couple weeks before the show, as well as access roads to the venue.

Also, it was funny, the guy we talked to just out of nowhere felt he had to start defending the rooms, and say that he "knows people like to go online and rip on these rooms, but they're supposed to be rustic". He did also acknowledge that it's probably for the best at least some of the units are getting redone now, cause they needed it anyways.

Anyway, nothing super huge, just a little update after a visit there.

It's nothing special, but it has AC, the pool is cool, and you can be back to the hotel in 10 minutes after the show. I stayed in the Abby 3 years ago, really nice, but I'll take the resort for Alpine.

I was actually at the Coldplay show back in 2005. Fun night, packed house, really good show. Of course, that was before Coldplay became fucking horrible.

Hopefully on Alpine's list of improvements is cutting off the local police force's annual practice of busting as many people with weed as possible. Probably pay half their salary with weed tickets at Alpine every year. Literally the one shitty thing about the entire place. Get with the times and look the other way unless someone's obnoxious with it.

Or another option is don't smoke weed for a day when you know cops are around. Realize they have a boss too and are probably being told to do it. I speak from experience.

Do you mean in the lots or during the show? I have never been hassled for smoking during the show at all at Alpine, DMB shows or otherwise.

Definitely in the lots. Agree that once you're in it's all good. Just have heard countless stories of people getting busted in the lots....mostly from Phish people which makes sense that they'd be out in heavier force for those lol

You honestly didn't understand my post?? You think the cops out there WANT to enforce that? Or write stupid speeding tickets? Are you the most naive person here?

How did you infer that from my post?

Your point was that the police officers have a boss. My point was the decision of "cutting off the local police force's annual practice" should come from higher up and they should be given a different directive when policing the lots.

    This isn't that hard.

They do the undercover thing a lot in the lots for sure, though I feel like I see it more frequently going after underage drinkers (who likely are smoking a lot of the time too.) I've never personally had an issue, but usually just try to be discreet (like we'll pop into the car for a couple minutes rather than do it out in the open.)

I suppose it's all about revenue for the county - every weed bust is another fine in their pocket.

I remember N2 in 2015 watching these two poor kids get busted for drinking. It was just a guy and his girlfriend by themselves. They looked to be probably in the 18-20 range. They parked across the row from us, set up a small grill and threw some brats on, and each cracked a single beer. They weren't with a big group, weren't being rowdy, literally just sitting in lawn chairs waiting for their brats to cook. Cops rolled up on a golf cart, carded them and hauled them both away. They came back about an hour later looking really dejected. Really felt awful for them!

Yea I've also been lucky and have never been busted at Alpine, and I'm also careful about it. Been VIP parking last few times and that helps too, wayyyy less of a police presence near VIP.

Hate hearing stories like that about the couple. Wish the focus would be on anyone causing a real problem.

Guess it is what it is. Alpine is definitely near the top of my list of Happy Places, so even the slightest annoyance like having to be nervous about hitting a joint riles me up lol

Last year was in the bus lot (our campground shuttled us in school buses) and saw PLENTY of people who were drinking and smoking while appearing underage. It looked like a full on frat party tailgate scene just 1 row over from our bus. Probably 75 kids ages 17-25. I never saw 1 golf cart or uniformed police walking through that party scene. Most in our group were keeping the smoking relatively discreet and all just having a good time.

I couldn't believe there wasn't a cop that came around to check out a few of the buses and the kids partying it up

My favorite story since we are on Alpine cops. First row of cars in the green lot, hung out wrecking beer bongs all day in the shade. Watched a girl drive down the access road, looking lost. They pulled her over I guess you could say. Busted for beers and there was crying and complaints she could never be president due to this. All while a guy on a mini moped is driving back and forth doing wheelies. Ready for the summer!
