Mmm, venison. My cousins deer hunt and they always give me the hook-up with some meat. That stuff is so good (especially in a burger.)

If y'all like fishing and/or paddling on the open water, I would strongly recommend Quetico Park in Canada. It's just north of MN and it's one of the most peaceful, untouched places I have ever been. I saw one other canoe in the 4 days I was there with my dad, camping on the pine tree islands and fishing for walleye, bass and pike during the day. Absolutely one of the coolest experiences of my life and a great part of nature.

Just wondering if anyone here has had experience with Arc'Teryx jackets and gear. Are they worth the price? I want to find one of their lighter-weight jackets but I'm scared to spend that much money.

i grew up in a small town in the coast mountains in british columbia and spent most of my free time mountain biking, hiking and camping. I live about 3 hours from the rockies now, but don't get out as much as i'd like. Hopefully going hiking/camping in Jasper next weekend.

I'll be headed up to my house in Maine on Friday for a little vacation. I have some acres in Washington County where I will be fishing, hiking, and camping. I look forward to it after a hard week of final exams

I spend an inordinate amount of time outside. I run 10+ miles everyday, and in the winter I go skiing all day 3 times a week, (I'm supposed to be ski instructing, but most of the time I don't have any lessons to give.) I got a kayak and use it, and whenever there is a 14,000 foot mountain around I attempt to climb it.

I'm headed to Sun Valley, Idaho on monday to see my step brother get married. We're gonna be there for two weeks doing climbing and white-water rafting. We're also going to yellowstone and staying in montana for a few nights. I'm pretty pumped.

I am floating the royal gorge (colorado) next week for my first rafting experience....
You like to climb? I went on my first technical climbs over spring break and loved it, what would you recommend to get better? Bouldering or just top-rope climbing?

Bouldering is fantastic for learning technique..it's also just as difficult as top-rope climbing if you ask me. It's also more convenient because you don't have to have all the gear set-up, etc. Top-rope climbing is awesome though if you can get a hold of a rope or have a group of friends who do it.

    I'm a HUGE nature girl/tree hugger

I camp every chance I get (been 5 times this summer), love hiking and kayaking and cliff-diving in the summer, and in the winter I showshoe, snowboard, and had just recently gone frozen waterfall climbing last season.

I thank the northwoods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for the majority of my adventures.

My day is fulfilled if I get to spend at least 1/2 hour outside. I eat my lunch in our courtyard and read for my breaks at work

I have a pair of Atlas from I think 3 seasons ago. They're great, really easy to control... a little pricey, but quality. Good for inclines/hills and rocky terrain because the grips on the bottom are flexible and basically mold into the ground where you're stepping.

did you ever try with the old school wooden kind? I hear there is some controversy on which is actually better. I will probably rent both if I can to get a feel for it.

Actually I just went to bass pro shop yesterday and got a ton of great stuff on clearance. My favorite being a magnesium firestarter. tried it out yesterday..still getting used to it. Also got a tree-mountable game-cam so i can see what sort of animal activity occurs around my tree stand.
I deer hunt, gun and bow Worked at a hunting preserve for about 5 years and it was the absolute best job ever. Hiking is great, pretty much anything outside is great. I really should get into climbing, since I live about 30 minutes away from the world-famous Shawankgunks.

so i'm trying to get back into my outdoorsy roots from the boy scout days. one of my biggest regrets is not making eagle, and stopping at life. but, i'm considering a state park in texas to go camping. any suggestions on which one? i live in baton rouge so i figured Austin would be about as far west into texas i'd want to go.

and i've been thinking about joining this rock gym thats 45 mins away. do these rates look reasonable?

I like to hike and I haven't been camping in years so I don't know if I still like that or not.

The problem with me is that I don't have anyone around me that will hike on a regular basis with me so I don't get to go as much as I like to and when I do go it's a lot bigger of a process than it should be just because of my lack of stamina and knowledge about the sport. I wish I could meet some outdoorsy people but, meh.

Anyway, there's nothing better than spending a couple of hours in the woods and reaching a summit to see a spectacular view and see how far you went. It's such a great feeling.

    Unfortunatley not.

"There are no public camping facilities in DuPont State Forest. Camping is only permitted for organized groups that volunteer to do trail work. Do not camp in the parking lot. For information on volunteer opportunities contact the Forest Supervisor's office at (828) 877-6527."

There is an awesome place in Boone, right near ASU that was great for camping...I can't remember it for the life of me... I'll let you know when I do think of it.

There is an awesome place in Boone, right near ASU that was great for camping...I can't remember it for the life of me... I'll let you know when I do think of it.
Sorry boys but the Smokies trump all of those ....I know all those areas pretty well though, Boone, West Jefferson, Brevard, Asheville, Highlands, Cashiers, Hendersonville, Franklin...all wonderful places. There are several hidden places off of Highway 64, the stretch between Highlands and Cashiers most tourists don't know about, they're called sliding rock and a literal natural waterslide. Only go in the summer cuz even the fall the water is effin freezing! Definately hit up the waterfalls in Transylvania Co, several were in the film The Last of the Mohicans. I know of alot more "off the beaten path" places to check out if interested.

    Ah, lame basketballers talking smack.

This is the Outdoor Thread. Take your beef elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure both of us were joking..

And I am usually playing b-ball outside, thus I am in the correct thread.
