I agree completely. Especially 2023.

Only that the tape is better quality sound than the original Sirius rip.

Thanks for clarifying: I actually felt some issues in gorge SXM stream. And you’re right, Noah’s pulls of gorge N1 sounds good, I’ve played the second half today. Totally understand what you said.

I am happy that you liked 2022. Out idea is to make another one which will sound even better. But we will need a couple of weeks.

That show has been remasters back in June, but since there were some issues in the recording, we have involved a new crew member, DMB41GUY, who is doing an amazing editing work that will bring this remaster to a whole new level. We are almost done, I have listened to most of the songs, and this is going to make many of you insane.

Yes! I was so sad the Sirius version declined in quality right as the show was taking off. Their mix overall is just compressed too much, you can hear parts of it when the compression is "catching" as the volume/crowd noises increase, and the instruments don't have good separation. It all sounds smushed together, and a bit lossy sounding. Perhaps one day they will fix this issue.

The tape on the other hand is warm, rich, and captured what was there in the air really well.

I listened to his tape of N1 compared to the Sirius rip, and I have to it sounds better! The rip of course is mixed, but the actual quality of sound suffers a bit due to the live streaming I guess. (Still scratching my head as to why Sirius can't get it right, and why this year seemed to be worse than the last couple) Especially by the end run. Typical through the end of the encore is pretty rough quality, which also happens to be the highlight portion of the show.

The tape really captured what I heard live in person, and it's magical.

That's awesome!! I can't wait to hear his taper pulls! I was thinking that as I was mastering the Sirius rip; I hoped that there was going to be a really good taper pull of the three nights at some point. Soundboard recordings are obviously high-quality, and capture all the instruments directly or through very close proximity microphones, so the quality can be terrific, but there's also something about an audience tape that a soundboard mix simply cannot capture; the way the sound is glued together, coming out of speakers, mixing with the air, and picking up what it sounded like to human ears facing the stage. I'm so happy to hear that Noam got great recordings of these 3 special shows, and I can't wait to download them!

Oh, all good, dude! I didn't take that as a knock at all. I didn't have any control over the real time compression, limiting, mixing decisions, etc. that they did live in the moment as they were broadcasting. I just do my best to enhance what is already there. I'm actually quite impressed that they're able to get such a good overall sound in the moment and broadcast it as it's happening with pretty excellent quality. I know sometimes their live broadcast streams could be better, but there's a lot of variables, and all things considered, I'm highly impressed with their ability to do that.

YES! To add on to what Xcacel said, we're so excited to share that remastered recording with y'all soon! I'm so happy with how the remaster is turning out. The sound quality is wonderful, and I was able to enhance the original recording in a lovely way, but they were also a lot of bizarre digital noise issues with the original recording we had to work with. Our friend DMB41GUY volunteered his expertise in editing (noise and distortion removal, patching, etc.) to make it a collaborative effort. We're almost there, and should have it ready to share in the next couple weeks. I think anyone who loves D&T will flip!

Ya check them out! N1 is the best overall. It's really one of the best tapes I've ever heard. N2 is close, but he wrote in the notes the he had some taping issues at the end of the set causing him to grab a couch stream to replace Rapunzel. N3 was just tough due to wind issues. All 3 are definitely worth grabbing and listening to.

Have you every attempted a matrix show? In this situation it would be a blend of the sirius rip and the tape? I've heard a few from Grateful Dead tapes, but those are SBD and AUD matrixes. Don't know if it's worth attempting or not in this situation.

Also, my gripe with Sirius is only that Nugs seems to do live streams seamlessly with HQ audio. Not sure why Sirius is the lesser. You'd think they'd use the same technology for it. But I know Sirius is considered radio, so perhaps it's just how it's broadcasted. Nugs rarely has any variation in sound. All the shows are HQ. Sirius seems to be all over the place.

That's so good to hear. I will absolutely check the 3 tapes out!

And yeah, if Noam would be open to me doing a matrix of night one, I'd be down to try, for sure! I'll see if there's a way for me to reach out. Maybe he put his contact info in a txt file with the download or something like that.

I haven't checked out the live streams on nugs, but it sounds like they have it figured out from what you're saying. Definitely curious why the band / Sirius don't use a similar process for the sake of consistency with the audio quality of their Friday night broadcasts, then.

I know IEMs are taboo on here, but Hershey Park 2003 has a very good recording. A remaster of that would be great, but I think publicly trading IEM recordings are still banned.

I am late to the party on these remasters. I read through a portion of the thread and as a huge Dave and Tim fan and a lover of 96-97 DMB, I tried out 2-17-99 and 5-6-96.

Xcacel, you were spot on about 2-17-99. That's an amazing show. With the work you did it sounds like a Live Trax to me! Any Dave and Tim from 96, 97, and 99 that you can make sound like this will be greatly appreciated. I believe that was a taper recording? Unbelievable!

As for the 5-6-96 show, this has to be one of the best shows that the band has ever done!! You made this one sound like Red Rocks 95 to me and that's a huge feat. I love that release and basically we have a Red Rocks caliber sound and performance with some Crash tunes mixed in the setlist. Who could argue with that!

To Xcacel, djamieb, and whoever else is doing this work, please keep up your tremendous efforts! These shows will be cherished by the community for years to come. You are amazing! Thank you!

    That's VERY exciting.

That was my first D&T show and I remember it well. I knew people who went the following night and they got a little bit of a wilder setlist, plus the Christmas Song from n2 ended up on the Very Special Christmas Comp, but hard to say I would ever want to trade the show I went to.

Like so many of those old theatres, Denver's Paramount is just a beautiful room to see any show in. Excellent vibes.

Thanks firedancer0341. Never too late to this party, I am happy that you joined the club
And your feedback is highly appreciated!

2.17.2997, Denver CO, is still “under construction”. Not exactly sure what you’ve been listening to, but Jamie and Matt are doing their final touches, we’re almost there.

5.06.1996, New Orleans is a classic and I loved doing it. Red Rocks is up there and unreachable, but that timeframe was magic for the band, who was becoming more and more popular.

I’d recommend Djamieb’s remaster of 1996.12.27, North Charleston to continue your journey. The first six songs are an amazing run (Two Step, Nancies, #41, Say Goodbye, Billies, Crash into Me), the band delivered stellar performances and the sound quality that Jamie achieved is amazing. That show is amazing.

Also the two nights of New Year’s Eve 1995 at Hampton Coliseum are highly recommended (12.30 and 12.31.1995). They are fan’s favorites and you can sense the level of excitement that the band had back at the time.

We will keep on doing what we do because we love it!

Hey Danny, I’ll check it out.
I believe that with the right treatment (removing stage banter), we can remove the taboo.
Problem is, with IEMs, that have a very weird sound footprint, and it is difficult to handle them. Very often, there are clicks and skips that require an intensive and careful work to obtain a decent result. Overall, it is a lot of of work, comparing to a broadcast, for example. And it is not so easy to find the time, sometimes.
